Image: Mosley: I'm at 100% for Alvarez boutBy Allan Fox: 40-year-old Shane Mosley says he’s at full power for his May 5th bout against WBC junior middleweight champion Saul Alvarez and he plans on taking the 21-year-old Alvarez’s title when they meet at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada. Mosley is going to have to turn his game into a higher gear than what he’s been showing recently because Mosley has been looking rather old and over the hill as of late.

Mosley said this about Alvarez: “I’m fighting a good guy who is young and I care about his career, but I also care about my career. I’m at 100 percent and that’s unfortunate for Canelo.”

Mosley says he wasn’t at 100% for his last fight against Manny Pacquiao in a bout in which Mosley was dominated for 12 rounds by Pacquiao and ended up losing the fight by a 12 round decision. Mosley mentions having hurt his Achilles tendon and it prevented him from moving well and driving off on his shots. In hindsight, it just seems like an excuse by Mosley, especially given how poorly he fought in fights against Sergio Mora and Floyd Mayweather Jr. Excuses are only good when it’s for one fight, but when you get into the three fight range where Mosley is now, it doesn’t fly anymore; it’s just meaningless words.

Alvarez is expected to beat Mosley and beat him with ease. Mosley will likely fight well for the first three rounds but then quickly fade from then and look to keep from getting embarrassed on national television by getting knocked out by the 21-year-old Alvarez. Mosley doesn’t have the size or the power to compete with Alvarez, so he’s going to have to use his legs and try and run his way to safety. He won’t be able to win this way but at least he won’t get knocked out.
