Mayweather turns 35 in February, and he’s getting older and wasting his career on not staying busy in the prime of his career.

Mayweather had planned on fighting on May 5th at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas against the best possible opponent he could find, but that won’t happen now.

Mayweather wants to fight Manny Pacquiao in 2012, but the best he can hope for now is a fight near the end of the year if he can make a deal with Pacquiao upon getting out of jail.

It’s not likely to happen given his problems with trying to set up fights with Pacquiao in the past. Mayweather needs to put some speed up his career because he’s getting older and wasting long stretches of his career by not fighting.

While this is only going to be a three month jail sentence for Mayweather it’s still wasted time for him where he’s just going to be rotting in jail. If he can get out and immediately sign for a fight then maybe it’s not a bad thing.

But Mayweather has been slow in putting fights together and it’s doubtful that Mayweather will fight more than once in 2012.

Given how much money Mayweather makes for each fight, he’s potentially losing $40 million by not fighting at least three times in 2012. But more serious then that is the fact that he’s getting older and will soon start losing his hand speed.

Once his speed is gone, we could see Mayweather taking beatings and suffering knockouts like Roy Jones Jr. did when he started losing his speed in his mid-30s.

He needs to get it over with and fight Pacquiao this year before he ages to the point where he has no chance against the fast Filipino. The boxing public is officially sick of waiting on this fight and a lot of people have already lost interest in the whole affair.
