Latimore: Mayweather would destroy Pacquiao

Floyd Mayweather Jr Manny PacquiaoBy Chris Williams: Junior middleweight contender and sometimes sparring partner for Floyd Mayweather Jr. Deandre Latimore (22-3, 17 KO’s), thinks that Mayweather would completely dominate Manny Pacquiao if the two were to fight right now.

Latimore doesn’t even think it would be close, saying that Mayweather is simply on another level than Pacquiao.

“Oh man, Floyd would kill him [Pacquiao],” Latimore said to “Floyd can turn it on whenever he feels like it and he’d kill Manny. Manny hasn’t impressed me. I feel as though he’s not on the same level as Floyd.”

I think it’s pretty much academic at this point that Mayweather is by far the better fighter. If there any doubt going into Mayweather’s fight against WBC welterweight champion Victor Ortiz last weekend that Mayweather was the best fighter in boxing, Mayweather put that to rest with his easy 4th round TKO of Ortiz.

This was against a fighter that Pacquiao badly struggled against in sparring according to Freddie Roach, Pacquiao’s trainer. He pointed out that Pacquiao really had a ton of problems against Ortiz and didn’t know whether Mayweather would beat the young fighter going into the fight. It wasn’t even close, however, as Mayweather made Ortiz look like an amateur and dominated him so well that Ortiz lost his cool and headbutted Mayweather in the 4th in what looked like a cry for help.

We already saw Mayweather easily beat Juan Manuel Marquez two years ago in a one-sided 12 round decision. This was the same fighter that Pacquiao really couldn’t beat in two fights, having to settle for a controversial – some same “gift” – 12 round draw in 2004 and then getting a controversial 12 round split decision win over Marquez in a rematch in 2008.

I think it’s pretty clear that Pacquiao isn’t in Mayweather’s league and would get whipped black and blue by him if they were to fight. I don’t think they will unless Pacquiao goes along with the program and takes the random blood tests that Mayweather is asking.
