Froch has had a short run of luck with wins over Arthur Abraham and Glen Johnson after struggling badly in his first two fights of the Super Six tourney against Andre Dirrell & Mikkel Kessler. Although Froch comes into the finals bout with Ward sporting a 3-1 record, you can make a strong case that Froch should have a 2-2 record because his win over Dirrell was very questionable.

You really can’t call it a win because Froch hit air all night long and the only time he could land anything was when he was holding onto Dirrell. I had Dirrell winning by a lopsided decision in that fight, but I’m not surprised that Froch won it. After all, he was fighting at home in Nottingham and hometown decisions are common in boxing.

In this fight, Froch is coming into win little in the way of tools. He can punch a little, but his lack of hand speed makes it nearly impossible for him to land shots against fast fighters like Dirrell and Ward. If Froch was really tall like Vitali Klitschko, he could get away with his lack of hand speed by being able to keep his opponents on the outside with his longer arms. But that won’t work, because the 6’2” Ward is the same height at Froch, and it’s going to be impossible for Froch to control him with size.

Froch dominated 42-year-old Glen Johnson the last time he fought. Froch had someone that was just unable to pull the trigger with his shots for some reason. Maybe its age, who knows? Froch won’t have the luxury of having an opponent that doesn’t punch back when he steps into the ring with Ward, as he’s going to be lighting the slow-handed, slow-footed Froch with shots all night long.

This is going to be by far Ward’s easiest fight of tourney. All of Ward’s fights have been easy thus far. He’s whipped Mikkel Kessler, Allan Green and Arthur Abraham. And now Ward is going to whip Froch and put him in his place by sending him home to Nottingham a loser. It’s going to be a bad mismatch.
