Golovkin & Andre Ward trade words

By Scott Gilfoid: Gennadiy Golovkin came out firing at Andre Ward on social media today after he claimed that GGG had turned down a fight against him in the past.

The former two-division world champion Ward (32-0, 16 KOs) turned 38 today, and when he was asked by a fan if there were any fights that he’d wished had happened before he retired in 2017, he mentioned Golovkin.

Before long, Golovkin reacted to Ward’s post, telling him to “stop lying,” adding that the offer from his team had come after his fight with David Lemieux was announced.

GGG then said Ward was “angry” because he couldn’t sell tickets the way he did during his career. Oh boy, Golovkin is unleashing the dogs of war on Ward.

Golovkin fought Lemieux in October 2015, whereas Ward retired after his second fight with Sergey Kovalev in July 2017.

You’d think that Golovkin and Ward would have had plenty of time to fight in either of those two years in a mega-fight that would have made them both boatloads of cash.

Heck, even now, Ward is only 38 and is two years younger than Golovkin, who will be turning 40 in April. Why not right now?

Well, I think I speak for everyone when I say that Golovkin and Ward should fight each other NOW.

If Golovkin doesn’t get the fight with Canelo Alvarez in September, he and Ward should step inside the ring and square off.

Ward isn’t too old to fight, as his fighting style, which is a mauling type, isn’t affected by age or inactivity. It doesn’t take much energy to maul.

Some boxing fans believe that Golovkin didn’t want any part of that smoke from Ward five to six years ago. A lot of the fans thought GGG didn’t want that work.

Ward finished his career on a sour note in the eyes of some boxing fans, who felt that he deserved a loss in his first fight with Sergey Kovalev, and then got away with a low-blow stoppage win over the Russian fighter in the rematch.

You be the judge of Ward’s stoppage:
