Image: Bernard Hopkins vs. Chad Dawson to be shown on HBO PPV for $54.95 on October 15thBy Chris Williams: If you want to see the October 15th fight between WBC light heavyweight champion Bernard Hopkins (52-5-2, 32 KO’s) and 29-year-old two-time light heavyweight world champion Chad Dawson (30-1, 17 KO’s) you’re going to have to pay a pretty penny to watch it. The Dawson-Hopkins fight will be shown on HBO pay-per-view and will cost $54.95 to watch.

For that money, you get to see Dawson fight the 46-year-old punch and grab Hopkins, Danny Garcia vs. Kendall Holt in light welterweight action, Paulie Malignaggi vs. Orlando Lora in a nice mismatch at welterweight and Jorge Linares vs. Antonio DeMarco at lightweight. It’s not a bad little card, but is it worth $54.95? I’m not so sure.

That’s a bit much in an economy where people are losing their jobs left and right and the stock market is in a nosedive. I suspect this card won’t being in huge numbers with that hefty price tag attached to it. They need to knock off $50 and sell the fight card for $5, and maybe, just maybe the fight might do well.

Hopkins is kind of old and it’s not as interesting watching him fight nowadays because his bouts have so few punches. He’s still winning but it looks so ugly. He tags a guy, then grabs him and shoves him around against the ropes. It reminds me of cage fighting in the MMA. I just hope Dawson can keep the action in the center of the ring because I want to at least get a little value out of the huge price tag for this card.

I still think they’re making a big mistake of selling it for that much. I’ve never seen Hopkins as a PPV star, and Dawson, Linares, Malignaggi, Garcia, Holt and DeMarco aren’t what I consider to be PPV starts either. I would like to see this fight on regular HBO or Showtime, but not pay a mint to see it and likely end up disappointed by the main event.
