Image: Khan: If Brook is good he needs to be tested against a top 15 guyBy Scott Gilfoid: WBA light welterweight champion Amir Khan rightfully pointed out on his twitter the other day that unbeaten welterweight Kell Brook (24-0, 16 KO’s) contender should step it up and face a top #15 contender in the welterweight division. Brook recently beat Lovemore N’dou by a 12 round unanimous decision last weekend. For those who don’t know, N’dou is about to turn 40 and has been getting beaten up on a regular basis as of late.

Khan said this on his twitter “Kell Brook is fighting a guy who has lost a lot of fights to Paulie Malignaggi, beat twice at 140 lbs [by him]. If they say Brook is good, test him with a genuine 147 pound top 15, not even top 10 fighter.”

I totally agree with Khan. Let’s see Brook at least face a bottom feeder in the top 15 instead of 2nd tier guys all the time. It’s high time the training wheels come off this guy and he be allowed to swim on his own. I don’t see Brook succeeding, because he looks weak and slow. But you got to at least put him in with someone of quality at some point. What I saw of Brook in the N’dou fight was a guy that was throwing mostly arm punches, lacking power and hand speed. I was totally not impressed with what I saw of him.

I think some of the lower ranked guys in the top 15 like Shawn Porter and Ed Paredes have been power and skills than what I saw of Brook. Let’s see Brook fight one of those guys. I think he would lose but it’s better to find out sooner rather than later than the guy doesn’t have what it takes to be a top contender. So what if Brook loses? He can still hang around and serve a purpose of being one of the top contenders or trail horses for the champions to fight every once in a while. But I can’t see Brook ever winning a world title, not with his arm punches, lack of hand speed and power.

I see Khan destroying Brook if they ever fought, and I’m not at all impressed with Khan. But I think he’s a lot better than Brook.
