Hopkins vs. Pascal: Hopefully they get it right this time

By Dan Ambrose: Next month boxing fans will have to sit through another fight between WBC light heavyweight champion Jean Pascal 26-1-1, 16 KO’s) and 46-year-old Bernard Hopkins (51-5-2, 32 KO’s) in their rematch at the Bell Centre, Montreal, Quebec, Canada.

Hopkins and Pascal fought last year in December with the fight being scored a 12 round draw. The WBC ordered an immediate rematch, meaning that Hopkins wouldn’t have to wait awhile for Pascal to fight a rematch with Chad Dawson. As such, we’re seeing Pascal vs. Hopkins one more time and I’m really hoping that one of these fighters win so we can move on with more interesting fights.

Their fight last year was boring to watch with not a lot of action and Hopkins mugging Pascal on the inside. Hopkins would have won the fight had he not been knocked down two times. It’s a bad sign when a challenger finds himself hitting the deck over and over again.

This time Hopkins needs to nail his feet to the floor or put some glue on the bottom of his shoes just in case Pascal lands another one of his fast shots that Hopkins doesn’t see until it’s too late. I just don’t want a bunch of complaining from Hopkins after the fight that he should have won and that he was ripped off by the judges.

I’ve heard all that before. If he loses or if the fight ends up being scored as a draw then that’s probably a good sign that Hopkins didn’t do what he had to do for him to win the fight. I just want him to accept the defeat and move.

The same goes for Pascal. Just take the loss and move on and try to fight someone like Dawson or one of the other top contenders. I don’t want to see Hopkins and Pascal fighting each other repeatedly because the judges aren’t scoring the fight to their satisfaction.
