Boxing Results: Jean Pascal Upset by Michael “Diesel” Eifert!
By Ken Hissner: At the Place Bell, Laval, Quebec, Canada Thursday over ESPN+ Lou DiBella (DiBella Entertainment), Yvon Michel (GYM Promotions), Jean Pascal (Jean Pascal Promotions), Benedikt Poetchau (Blanko Sports), Ulf Steinfort (SES Sports Events GmbH) presented in the Main Event returning to Montreal for the first time in almost five years.
The 40-year-old former WBA World and WBC Silver Light Heavyweight champion Jean Pascal looked his age losing to IBF Inter-Continental champion Michael “Diesel” Eifert in an IBF eliminator.
In the Main Event former WBA and WBC Silver Light Heavy champ, Jean Pascal, 36-7-1 (20), #174.8, of Haiti and Laval, Quebec, CAN, lost to IBF Inter Cont’l Michael “Diesel” Eifert, 12-1 (4), #175, of Magdeburg, Sachsen-Anhalt, GER, 12 rounds in an IBF world title eliminator.
In the first round Eifert used an effect jab and several chopping rights while inside on the side of the head of the 40 year-old Pascal who never landed a right the entire round. In the second round Pascal finally landed a solid left hook to the chin of Eifert halfway through the round. Eifert came back with several rights on the chin of Pascal driving him to the ropes. In the third rounds ending for minute Pascal landed a solid right on the chin of Eifert getting his attention and making him start to move around the ring for the most part.
In the fourth round Pascal was throwing haymakers with both hands landing a few to the chin of Eifert who was on the move until the final seconds of the round backing Pascal into the corner at the bell. In the fifth round Pascal started out fast in the first minute. Then Eifert took over backing Pascal up the rest of the way with effective jabs and occasional rights to the chin.
In the sixth round Pascal started slowing down looking his age as Eifert continued outworking him. In the seventh rounds final half minute Pascal came alive driving Eifert to the ropes with a flurry of punches. In the eighth round Eifert dominated the round backing up Pascal the entire round.
In the ninth round Eifert had his way until the final twenty seconds when Pascal tried to steal the round with a flurry. In the tenth round Eifert out worked Pascal who was tiring badly. In the eleventh round again Eifert controlled with Pascal finishing stronger trying to steal the round.
In the twelfth and final round the crowd started chanting for Pascal who looked like he needed a knockout. He rallied in the final minute out landing Eifert to the delight of the crowd. Referee Martin Forest had an easy night with few clinches.
Scores were 118-110, 115-113 and 117-111 with this writer 116-112.
Mathieu “G-Time” Germain, 22-2-1 (9), #140, of Mascouche, Quebec, CAN, won a close decision over Steven Wilcox, 24-3-1 (7), #140, of Hamilton, Ontario, CAN, over 10 rounds for the vacant IBF Inter-Continental Super Light title.
In the first four rounds it was all Germain with little offense from Wilcox. In the fifth round Germain was landing solid left hooks to the chin of Wilcox.
In the seventh and eighth round Wilcox started putting combinations together to the chin of Germain with Germain landing the final left hook to the chin at the bell ending the eighth round.
In the ninth rounds midway point a left hook from the taller Wilcox caused a cut just under the right eyebrow of Germain. It was a big round for Wildox. In the tenth and final round Wilcox finished the stronger of the two as the blood continued down the side of the face from Germain’s right eye area.
Scores were 96-94, 97-93 twice with 96-94 by this writer.
Super Light Jessica “The Cobra” Camara, 10-4 (2), #140, of Montreal, Quebec, CAN, was stopped by Karla Ramos Zamora, 10-9-1 (3), #140, of Chimalhuacan, MEX, at 1:46 of the fourth round.
In the fourth round a barrage of punches from Zamora had Camara in trouble and not fighting back calling a halt to the fight by Referee Forest.
Light Heavy 2016 Olympian Joseph “Mighty” Ward, 9-1 (4), #175, of Moate, IRE, stopped Mario Andrade Rodriguez, 7-1 (4), #175, of Merida, Yucatan, MEX, at 1:31 of the first round of an 8.
In the first round a left hook from Ward on the chin dropped Rodriguez for an 8-count. Upon rising Ward was all over him with a flurry of punches having him defenseless forcing a stoppage.
Super Bantam Caroline Veyre, 2-0 (0), #124.4, of Paris, FR, and Montreal, CAN, defeated feather champ of France Anaelle Angerville, 5-2-1 (0), #125.2, of Vaulx-en-Velin, Rhone, FR, over 6×2 rounds.
In the first three rounds Veyre had an edge in two of them. In the fourth through the sixth rounds Angerville finally took a round in the sixth and final round. Referee was Martin Forest.
Bantam Amada Galle, 8-0-1 (1), #118, of Mississauga, Ontario, CAN, defeated Lorena “Coyota” Cruz, 4-3 (0), #118, of Mexico City, MEX, over 8×2 rounds.
In the first three rounds Galle had a slight edge with both throwing over hand rights for the most part. In the fourth round Cruz suffered an injury to her right shoulder and got a minute to recover.
In the fourth and fifth rounds Cruz recovered well enough to take the rounds out landing Galle. In the seventh round Galle decided to use her jab to take the round. In the eighth and final round Galle landed quite a few left hooks to the chin of Cruz and might have pulled out the win. Referee was Martin Forest.
Scores were 79-73 and 80-72 twice with this writer 77-75.
Welterweight southpaw Yoel “The Italian Sensation” Angeloni, 2-0 (1), #148, of Roma, Lazio, IT, stopped Alexander Calixto, 1-2 (1), #147, of Puebla, MEX, at 1:29 of the second round of a 4.
In the first round Angeloni used right uppercuts to the body of Calixto taking the round. In the second round a flurry of punches from Angeloni dropped Calixto for an 8-count from Referee Martin Forest.
Seconds later, a left right hook from the southpaw Angeloni again dropped Calixto for an 8-count. Angeloni jumped all over Calixto to force a halt.
