Klitschko vs. Chisora: Dereck needs to take advantage of Wladimir’s excessive clinching

By Dave Lahr: Unbeaten Dereck Chisora (14-0, 9 KO’s) has the talent to knock IBF/WBO heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko (55-3, 49 KO’s) out without any problems in their fight on April 30th in Mannheim, Germany. All Chisora has to do is be smart and notice what I’ve observed a long time ago about Wladimir in terms of his constant clinching and holding. If Chisora is astute, he’ll notice that Wladimir can no longer fight without clinching eight to eleven times per round.

Clinching is now a huge part of Wladimir’s game and he’s become totally reliant on holding his opponents to get rest breaks and to keep them from punching him when they get inside. Being able to hold his opponents is a huge advantage for Wladimir, because it keeps him from taking shots when they get inside his long reach. Since the referees in Germany aren’t about to warn or penalize Wladimir for his constant holding, it’s important for Chisora to take matters into his own hands by braining Wladimir with some nice clubbing head shots while Wladimir is holding onto him during one of his many clinches.

Chisora has got to, while being head, reach around and tag Wladimir on the side of the head or wherever to make him pay for grabbing him. By doing this, Chisora will be teaching Wladimir valuable lessons in their fight. And if Wladimir is truly the PHd holder that he says he is, then he should quickly learn and adapt by stopping his holding. I don’t Wladimir can adapt, and I thinks he’s going to get knocked out while holding onto Chisora.

If you look at Chisora’s last fight against Sam Sexton, Chisora was able to hurt and stop Sexton when Sexton made the mistake of trying to clinch Chisora. Instead of going limp and just letting Sexton clinch, Chisora kept hammering him to the side of the head until he badly hurt him. Chisora then poured on the power punches until the referee stopped the fight. The same thing is going to happen with Wladimir when he tries to hold Chisora over and over again on 4/30.
