This could be a great fightBy Dan Ambrose: WBC middleweight champion Sergio Martinez (46-2-2, 25 KO’s) could be facing WBO junior middleweight champion Sergeii Dzinziruk on HBO on March 12th in a fight that will take place at Madison’s Square Garden, in New York. This fight would easily be the better fight compare to another fight that will be taking place on the same night on pay-per-view between World Boxing Association (WBA) junior middleweight champion Miguel Cotto vs. 37-year-old Ricardo Mayorga.

Dzinziruk, 34, is arguably the best fighter in the junior middleweight division, and yes, better even than Cotto by far. Dzinziruk has an excellent jab, good power, great movement and super defensive skills. He’s not another Paul Williams or Kelly Pavlik, so Martinez, 35, is going to have to raise his game a couple of notches if he wants to get a win against the Ukrainian Dzinziruk. Knocking Dzinziruk out is not likely going to happen, because this guy has a great chin and he’s hard to hit because he blocks punches so well and shifts around. Martinez is going to get hit a lot in this fight, especially when he’s coming forward trying to land his shots.

Dzinziruk’s jab is one of the best in all of boxing, as he’s showed in fights against guys like Lukas Konecny, Joel Julio and Daniel Dawson. He has a way of stopping his onrushing opponents in their tracks with his hard jabs and stopping their momentum completely. Martinez is going to have to be much more tactical in this fight because Dzinziruk isn’t one of the primitive fighters that Martinez has been beating lately. He’s not someone that’s just going to plod forward like Pavlik and Williams and look to throw a lot of punches in hopes that one of them lands. Dzinziruk is like a surgeon with his shots, and he’s going to give Martinez fits in this fight if it gets made.
