Glen Johnson is going to be hard for Allan Green to beat

By Jason Kim: In the recent episode of Fight Camp 360, Allan Green (29-2, 20 KO’s) revealed that Glen Johnson (50-14-2, 34 KO’s) mostly got the better of him when they sparred in the past for Johnson’s fight with Roy Jones Jr.

No doubt this was years ago, Johnson still looked plenty good for a 41-year-old fighter, as he gave IBF light heavyweight champion Tavoris Cloud huge problems in a 12 round decision loss in August, narrowly losing the fight. Johnson looked completely weight drained in that bout, which would partly explain his loss of power.

However, he’s having no problem cutting weight to make the 168 pound limit, according to the latest boxing news. Dan Rafael is ESPN is reporting that Johnson is already close to the 168 pound limit, weighing 169 pounds with a week to go before his fight with Green at the MGM Grand, in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Johnson being weight drained may be Green’s only real chance in this fight, because he doesn’t have the work rate needed to beat Johnson in a 12 round fight.

Green doesn’t throw enough punches to match Johnson’s high work rate, and he’s going to have to try and knock him out to get the win. Johnson doesn’t get knocked out, so Green has a big problem on his hands in this fight. He’s going to have to be a lot busier than he’s been in any fight he’s had during his career to beat a guy like Johnson.

It’s possible, but not very likely. The winner of this fight will move into the Super Six tournament semifinals to fight one of the semifinalists such as Carl Froch, Arthur Abraham or Andre Ward.

Johnson is a replacement for Mikkel Kessler, who pulled out of the tournament recently after sustaining an eye injury. For his part, Green is a replacement for Jermain Taylor, another fighter that had to pull out of the Super Six tournament due to suffering an injury.

Green looked dreadful in losing his first Super Six tournament fight to Andre Ward last June, losing every round of the fight to Ward. Johnson has lost two out of his last three fights to Chad Dawson and Tavoris Cloud.

However, Johnson looked a lot better in losing those fights compared to how bad Green did in his loss to Ward. There’s no comparison, really. Green looked worse than awful. He was badly overmatched and put in a bad performance.
