The winner of the fight will find himself in the semifinals and the loser will be going home. The fight will be taking place on the undercard of the Rafael Marquez vs. Juan Manuel Lopez bout at the MGM Grand, in Las Vegas, Nevada. Johnson, 41, is a replacement for inured WBC super middleweight champion Mikkel Kessler, who pulled out of the tournament due to an eye injury.

Kessler was going to be Green’s next opponent but with his injury, Showtime was forced to grab yet another replacement. The tournament had already lost Jermain Taylor after he suffered a bad concussion while from being knocked out by Arthur Abraham last year in October in their Super Six stage 1 fight. And recently, Andre Dirrell pulled out after getting hurt by Abraham in their fight in March.

Green, 31, was beaten in his first fight in the Super Six tournament by WBA super middleweight champion Andre Ward on March 27th. After talking a good game before the fight, Green came out looking completely flat. He had no energy and was beaten up for 12 rounds. Green didn’t do much on offense in that fight, because every time he would throw anything worth noting, Ward would counter him with hard shots. After the 7th round, Green almost completely stopped punching and just took shots for the remainder of the fight.

Johnson is in an ideal position to make it to the semifinals of the tournament and turn his sagging career around. Johnson has lost three out of his last six fights to Chad Dawson and Tavoris Cloud. In moving down in weight against Green, Johnson could find himself in two consecutive good paying bouts. With his high volume punch output, good power, bigger size, and better experience you’d have to figure that Johnson will be the favorite in the fight. That seems a little strange given his age, but he’s still fighting fairly well and Green looked so awful in losing to Ward. Green also looked beatable in his fight with Tarvis Simms last year before entering the Super Six tournament. Green won that fight by a 10 round unanimous decision but Green looked bad throughout that fight.
