The Super Six tourney didn’t really lose much in Kessler and Green’s departure

Image: The Super Six tourney didn't really lose much in Kessler and Green's departureBy Scott Gilfoid: There’s been a lot of people bellyaching about the loss of WBC super middleweight champion Mikkel Kessler and Allan Green from the Super Six tournament this week, but I don’t see it as being a big deal. Let’s be real here. Kessler and Green had very little chance of winning the Super Six tournament. I do think Kessler had a good chance of making it into the semifinals if he didn’t break apart under the big power and speed of Green. However, once Kessler got there, chances are high that he’d meet up with either Andre Dirrell or Andre Ward and then get beaten black and blue. That would have almost certainly been the end of the line for Kessler, so it really doesn’t matter much that he’s pulled out of the tournament.

The tourney has four good fighters and really the winner of the Super Six tournament will be either the talented Dirrell or Ward. That would have been the same case if Kessler or Green had made it into the semifinals. Those guys wouldn’t have been able to even touch Dirrell and Ward. They’re both a class above Kessler and Green. I see the Froch-Abraham fight producing the loser for the finals. Whoever comes out on top in the Froch-Abraham fight will be beaten in the finals by Ward or Dirrell. That’s my prediction and I know I’m going to be right about that. Froch stands no chance against Dirrell or Ward, as long as the fight isn’t in Nottingham, England.

I have serious doubts about Froch getting past Abraham in October. Abraham is about as primitive as you can get, but Froch is going to play into his hands by trying to slug with him. That’s where Abraham is going to be blasting Froch’s head around the ring. If Froch can get a clue early and just box, I think he can beat Abraham. But if Froch sees this as a silly test of his manhood and tries to prove that he can take Abraham’s shots, then I see Froch getting knocked out. Knowing Froch, I see him getting knocked out. He’ll go right after Abraham and make it easy for him to knock Froch out.
