Vitali Klitschko vs. Tomasz Adamek in 2011 at Madison Square Garden

By Jim Dower: World Boxing Council heavyweight champion Vitali Klitschko (40-2, 38 KO’s) could be the first of the Klitschko brothers to get a stab at heavyweight contender Tomasz Adamek (42-1, 27 KO’s) next year in 2011. However, that’s if the 33-year-old Adamek can get by his next opponent 38-year-old Lance Whitaker (35-6-1, 28 KO’s), who will likely be fighting Adamek in November or December this year.

According to boxing news from Badlefthook.com, Vitali could be the one facing Adamek next year at Madison Square Garden, in New York. There are reportedly talks between them already. This is a fight that HBO will likely show because they seem to be enamored with Adamek despite the fact that he’s looked much inferior to the Klitschko brothers since moving up to the heavyweight division.

Perhaps it’s his vulnerability that makes Adamek so appealing to HBO and some boxing fans, because he didn’t look at all impressive in beating Jason Estrada, Chris Arreola and most recently 38-year-old Michael Grant at heavyweight. Adamek was hurt several times in a 12 round decision win over Grant on August 21st.

Although Grant threw very few punches in the fight, he gave Adamek problems just about every time he opened up with his offense. A fight between Vitali and Adamek would likely amount to a slaughter because Adamek just doesn’t seem to have the same kind of talent that the Klitschko brothers possess.

I kind of had my doubts that Adamek would get matched up with Wladimir Klitschko, the IBF/WBO heavyweight champion, because with his superb jab, fast hands, massive power and range, he would likely dispatch Adamek within a few rounds.

At least Vitali, Adamek will be able to survive for a little while by running around the ring. He won’t be competitive or win any rounds but he’ll survive for a while until Vitali catches up to him and knocks him out.
