Why Floyd Mayweather is not in a hurry to sign the contract for Pacquiao bout

By Raphael de Jesus: Floyd Mayweather is not in a hurry to sign the contract or reply to Bob Arum and Manny Pacquiao because he has the upper in the negotiations. Floyd gets bigger gate dollars and grosses higher PPV sales. Many fans of Manny say that people pay to see Floyd lose. I say to them, so what, they still pay. How can Floyd in his right mind accept a 50-50 split when the facts say he generates more money. Does Floyd have to take less money than he deserves to please Top Rank and Manny?

Top Rank and Manny Pacquiao abandoned previous negotiations. It seems to me that what they are doing now is trying to save some grace by agreeing to items that are no longer on the table. Many fans are drinking the Kool Aid that Top Rank and Bob Arum is serving to the media.

Manny’s fans and even Arum himself had called Floyd a coward many times. But there is no evidence Floyd is coward in the ring, where boxers make their money and either enhanced or damaged their legacies. Top Rank and Pacquiao play a blame game and Floyd is responsible for everything that goes wrong in the negotiations.

Manny Pacquiao almost walked away from fighting Oscar after he signed the contract because he felt he deserved more money. He did the same when he fought Hatton. It seems to me that Manny is the one that plays hard to get. After the first fight against Juan Manuel Marquez, Marquez wanted an immediate rematch but it never happened because Top Rank and Manny offered Marquez 750k, while Manny would have made millions. Top Rank and Manny are way over their heads. Floyd won’t play their games.

Manny can make money, but Floyd can make more. They both need each others, but Floyd has more options as he matches better against many fighters at welter or junior middle weights. I say to Floyd don’t take the bite unless is 60-40 split in your favor. And the drug tests should be “random”. The testing agencies can stop testing whenever they like as long as they have the element of surprise as their disposal.
