Image: Mayweather-Pacquiao fight rumored to cost $80 on PPVBy Eric Thomas: There are rumors circulating around that the Floyd Mayweather Jr. vs. Manny Pacquiao bout, if it ever gets made, will sell for a cool $80 on pay-per-view. As of now, it’s just a rumor but I can see it being a possibility with the popularity of these two fighters. I would be more than willing to pay it just to see these two fighters slug it out in what will likely be the biggest fight in boxing history. However, if the fight does go for $80, my hope is Top Rank promoter Bob Arum and Golden Boy Promotions put a good undercard of competitive fights to make the entire card more interesting to watch.

$80 is a lot of money to see one good fight and three or four mismatches. I know the promoters like to put their top prospects against badly over-matched opponents order to build the hype and bring their fighters along slowly, but if they’re asking for fans to pay that kind of money, I would hope that they can put a halfway decent undercard along with it.

I wouldn’t mind seeing some good B level fighters like Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. if they’re matched against quality fighters and not other guys they know he can beat. There’s also talk that Las Vegas hotels could be raising their rates on the same night of the fight, which should be taking place at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, in order to take advantage of the many fans that will be flocking to the city to see the Mayweather vs. Pacquiao fight.

Currently, the management for Mayweather and Pacquiao have reportedly reached an agreement for the mega fight, and the only thing that now awaits is for Mayweather to make his decision whether he wants to fight Pacquiao at this time or maybe wait until next year. Arum volunteered that his fighter Pacquiao can always fight Mayweather next year in May if he’s not ready to fight right now. Arum, since he already booked both the MGM Grand in Las Vegas and the Cowboy Stadium in Arlington, Texas, on the same night on November 13th, will go ahead and match Pacquiao up with either Miguel Cotto or Antonio Margarito, two of Arum’s most popular fighters. That fight obviously won’t interest boxing fans anywhere near the same way as a bout between Mayweather and Pacquiao, but it will keep Pacquiao busy, and keep him sharp while he waits for the Mayweather bout in the future.
