Does it matter if Mayweather is afraid of Pacquiao if he still whips him with ease?

Image: Does it matter if Mayweather is afraid of Pacquiao if he still whips him with ease?By Chris Williams: I don’t believe for a second that Floyd Mayweather Jr. is afraid of Manny Pacquiao, but let’s pretend that Mayweather is afraid of Pacquiao for the sake of argument. So what if Mayweather is afraid of him? Fear is a natural thing, and it goes away quickly once the fight starts. It doesn’t matter one bit if Mayweather is afraid of Pacquiao, because once the punches start flying, I see Pacquiao reduced to a pile of bloody flesh on the canvas. Mayweather, whether he’s afraid of Pacquiao or not, will still be just as hard to hit and just as quick with his hands.

If Pacquiao truly believes that Mayweather is afraid of him, he’ll probably get cocky and think he can rush Mayweather with his two-handed punching while on the run. I’m sorry, but that amateurish fighting style won’t get nowhere against a fighter like Mayweather. He’s going to be battering Pacquiao with punches and avoiding his shots in return. Many of Pacquiao’s fans seem to be gleeful about the idea of Mayweather being afraid of Pacquiao, as if it equals a win in their minds.

I hate to drizzle on their parade but it doesn’t matter a hill of beans if Mayweather is afraid of Pacquiao. He’s going to fight him, and the fear won’t last once he discovers how easy it is to hit Pacquiao. I think there’s going to be a lot of sad Pacquiao fans the day after the Pacquiao-Mayweather fight, as they wonder what happened to Pacquiao. I just hope they realize then that fear doesn’t equal victory. It can be when you have a fighter that doesn’t fight to the best of their ability and doesn’t take chances in the ring.

Mayweather isn’t that way. Once they get in the ring, Mayweather will go on cruise control and start whipping on Pacquiao like he’s beating an old dirty rug that he has hung on a fence-line. It’s going to be simple for Mayweather to beat the tar out of Pacquiao next year. And all those Pacquiao fans that were in ecstasy thinking that Mayweather was afraid of Pacquiao, they’ll be crying in their bulut.

The way I see it, Mayweather is going to be beating Pacquiao like a bad habit, and giving him an old fashioned beating that he won’t soon forget. The lesson here will be that fear means jack when you get in the ring with a superior fighter. That kind of stuff only works when you’re facing an inferior fighter that was going to lose anyway. It doesn’t work when you’re facing a guy like Mayweather.
