Pavlik-Espino: Kelly to win but don’t expect a good performance

pav443By Peter Wells: This weekend the main fight is a pointless PPV fight between WBC and WBO Middleweight champion and unknown contender Miguel Espino 20-2-1. Unfortunately the fight we were all looking forward to between Paul Williams and Kelly Pavlik was called off due to a serious infection on Kelly’s hand, which magically vanished once Williams had arranged to fight Sergio Martinez instead.

So Kelly is left with another fight which wont do anything to his legacy just add an extra win to his record. After looking like the next superstar beating Jermain Taylor twice stopping him the first time and destroying a poor Gary Lockett in 3, but then last October it all went to pot, as he lost to Light Heavyweight Bernard Hopkins, losing almost every round. This was a huge blow in such a sparkling career. He came back this February with a poor victory over Marco Antonio Rubio, but to his credit it can be hard coming off such a defeat so soon.

Then he canceled a fight in the summer with Sergio Mora which he would have clearly won, before calling off his fight with Williams and deciding to fight an opponent who’s not even going to test him 2 weeks later. Well I would honestly like an upset here but I’m gonna stick to the facts and the facts say, Espino has no chance. Espino hasn’t been stopped but hasn’t fought anyone decent at all. He may cause Pavlik a few problems early on but Pavlik should rub off the dust to come through to stop Miguel in round 10. Miguel may be stopped earlier it all depends on how long it takes Pavlik to get started. Unfortunately if you do pay for this fight, you won’t get your moneys worth, as there will be little action until Pavlik gets the stoppage, kind of like the Rubio fight. Pavlik has insisted he is not ducking anyone, so he can back that up by fighting either Martinez or Williams next year, and he should get a decent test their, and we will see if he deserves to carry the Middleweight division any longer.
