Pavlik looks like he’s lost hand speed

By David Lahr: I don’t if it was me or what, but WBC/WBO middleweight champion Kelly Pavlik looked like he’s lost some hand speed in the year that he’s been out of boxing. Seriously, Pavlik looked like he was punching underwater for most of the fight. I thought there was something wrong with my television for a while there, because Pavlik seemed like he was throwing in slow motion against Miguel Espino.

Pavlik wins! Does anybody care?

Image: Pavlik wins! Does anybody care?By Sam Gregory: While those of us living on the eastern seaboard are shoveling out from over two feet of snow that got dumped on us yesterday, World Boxing Council/World Boxing Organization middleweight champion Kelly Pavlik (36-1, 32 KO’s) is celebrating his fourth title defense win over Miguel Angel Espino (20-3-1, 9 KO’s). So congratulations to Kelly Pavlik for stopping Contender star Espino in five rounds.

If Pavlik keeps fighting guys like this he should be able to string at least a dozen or so title defenses together without much problem. Just like Hopkins did when he fought guys like Carl Daniels and Morrade Hakker.

Pavlik defeats Espino – Good end to a bad year?

Image: Pavlik defeats Espino - Good end to a bad year?By Richard McNamara: I don’t know about everyone else but I feel 2009 has been a damn good year for boxing, with some excellent match ups, some surprise outcomes and lets face it some dubious and shocking decisions, both domestically and internationally across the globe. However I think there is one fighter who could not be happier to see 2009 come to an end, and that my friends is Kelly Pavlik, it‘s not been his best.

Pavlik vs. Espino tonight: Look for Kelly to destroy Miguel

Image: Pavlik vs. Espino tonight: Look for Kelly to destroy MiguelBy William Mackay: This is probably a no win situation that WBC/WBO middleweight champion Kelly Pavlik (35-1, 31 KO’s) finds himself in tonight in his title fight against Miguel Angel Espino (20-2-1, 9 KO’s) at the Beeghly Center, in Youngstown, Ohio. The problem is that this isn’t the opponent that boxing fans wanted to see Pavlik face, preferring to see him fight Paul Williams. That fight fell through after it was determined that Pavlik’s staph infected left hand still wasn’t completely healed by the time that their December 5th fight would have rolled around.

Pavlik-Espino: Kelly to win but don’t expect a good performance

pav443By Peter Wells: This weekend the main fight is a pointless PPV fight between WBC and WBO Middleweight champion and unknown contender Miguel Espino 20-2-1. Unfortunately the fight we were all looking forward to between Paul Williams and Kelly Pavlik was called off due to a serious infection on Kelly’s hand, which magically vanished once Williams had arranged to fight Sergio Martinez instead.

Pavlik-Espino: Is this worth being a PPV bout?

By Chris Williams: For the third time in the past year, boxing fans will be seeing World Boxing Council/WBO middleweight champion Kelly Pavlik (35-1, 31 KO’s) facing what appears to be a badly overmatched opponent in Miguel Angel Espino (20-2-1, 9 KO’s). Pavlik will be facing Espino on Saturday night in a pay-per-view bout at the Beeghly Center, in Youngstown, Ohio.

Pavlik not to get it all his own way against Espino

pav34233456352By Richie Doyle: looking towards next weekend’s fight cards I notice that kelly Pavlik is quite overpriced and his fight with Miguel Angel Espino is being seen as easy ko victory but I believe Espino could be a tougher task then that, he has great amateur pedigree and his pro record seems to have gone from strength to strength since his disappointing appearance on the contender back in 2005 where he was beaten by Peter Manfredo jr. However i do see the odds on favourite Pavlik winning a hard earned points victory and with odds of 3/1 this could be a great bet so get on.

Stieglitz vs. Miranda on January 9th; Pavlik-Espino on December 12th

pavlik6452315By Sean McDaniel: World Boxing Organization super middleweight champion Robert Stieglitz (36-2, 22 KO’s) will be making his first defense of his WBO crown on January 9th against the hard hitting slugger Edison Miranda (33-4, 29 KO’s) at the Bordelandhalle, Magdeburg, Sachsen-Anhat, Germany. Stieglitz, 28, recently captured the WBO title with an 11th round stoppage of the previous champion Karoly Balzsay on August 22, 2009, in a fight in which the action went back and forth for 10 rounds before Balzsay suddenly ran out of gas in the 11th round and was stopped.

Pavlik disappoints

pavlik6452315By Peter Wells: I’m not going to turn obsessed with criticizing Kelly, I just want to make this one point, this is one of those fighters who is ruining boxing. After all the hand problems that Kelly Pavlik has had, he is suddenly ok to fight, in my view, a worthless fight against Miguel Angel Espino, instead of calling off his December 5th bout with the feared Paul Williams. Well he’s only fighting 2 weeks later, he needs to fight someone good, he beats Taylor twice, and he’s one of the best fighters in the world. If he’d versed Winky Wright last year he would have lost, because even Winky nearly beat Jermaine.
