Bradley wants fights with Khan, Hatton and Marquez

By William Mackay: World Boxing Organization light welterweight champion Timothy Bradley (25-0, 11 KO’s) wants a fight with WBA light welterweight title holder Amir Khan, according to Fighthype. “Let’s go after Amir Khan and Ricky Hatton if he wants to get back in the ring. Lets go after [Juan Manuel] Marquez,” Bradley said. That’s good that Bradley isn’t limiting himself to only one fighter, because the chances of him fighting any of these three are rather small at this time. Khan would be the perfect fight for Bradley to get his name out there for the world public.

However, few boxing fans actually believe that Khan will be put in with a fighter like Bradley anytime soon. Bradley may be too dangerous for Khan, and it’s doubtful that Khan’s trainer and his promoter will want to put the 23-year-old Khan in with Bradley now. If Khan suddenly starts developing in the next year or two, then Bradley could wind up an option for him, but probably not now. Khan will likely take on American Paulie Malignaggi next, and after that, probably someone along the lines of a Brunet Zamora, Alberto Msquera or Andriy Kotelnik.

Hatton could be coming back in the middle of next year. However, Hatton will be looking to get a fight with a big star and not someone like Bradley who is trying to make a name for himself. Bradley, of course, is a champion, but he’s not that well known to the casual boxing fan right now, even though he’s unbeaten and with a better record than Khan. Hatton would be biting off more than he could chew if he were to come back against a fighter like Bradley. This is why I doubt he’ll opt to fight Bradley. It’s too dangerous of a fight and there isn’t the big money in a fight with him compared to other fights out there for Hatton.

Marquez would be a great opponent for Bradley, but he’s also looking in another direction hoping for a fight against Hatton.

If Bradley wants to establish himself as a big star, he’ll likely have to get there by defending his title for a few years and try to get the other champions to unify the belts. I wouldn’t hold my breath if I was him waiting for Khan, Hatton or Marquez to fight him, because I don’t see any of them fighting him in this lifetime. Not unless Bradley starts looking really beatable.
