By Steven Wain: Ok before I start let me congratulate both fighters on an absolutely fantastic performance, right from the first bell all the way to the last there was amazing action for any boxing fan. Both boxers took and gave punishment and in my eyes both of them are winners.

What we saw tonight was boxing at its best, yes it wasn’t the best fight or the most tidy of fights but it was one hell of a battle, for people who maybe thought it was boring I ask you how many fights have you seen when the referee hardly has to brake them up and were both fighters punch for the full 12 rounds? That was proper boxing.

Rendall “2 Tone” Munroe (20-1, 8 KO’s) regained his EBU super bantamweight title with a 12 round unanimous points victory over brave challenger Simone “Boom Boom” Maludrottu (30-3, 11 KO’s). The fight was very very close and could have gone either way depending on what the judges saw, however I think in the end the right fighter won. I will however have to disagree with at least two of the judges scorecards, they were judge Noel Monnet and judge Predrag Aleksic who both scored the contest 116-112 to Munroe I believe this was a bit harsh on Maludrottu, as the fight was much closer.

Maludrottu started off the better of the two fighters pushing Munroe onto the back foot and catch the Leicester boxer with some classy punches, during the second half of the fight Munroe started to take over with some good solid body shots; however both fighters never looked troubled by each others power.

The landing rate for both boxers was an incredible 22% with Munroe throwing 210 punches and Maludrottu throwing 190, that’s how close this fight was.

So what’s next for Munroe, well possibly a world title fight again Japan’s Toshiaki Nishioka which would be an excellent challenge for Rendall, whatever he does many doors are now open for him.

Once again I would like to congratulate both fighters on one hell of a fight.
