Image: Munroe vs. Quigg on 6/16: Rendall wins this oneBy Scott Gilfoid: Former EBU super bantamweight champion Rendall Munroe (24-2, 10 KO’s) will be facing undefeated Scott Quigg (24-0, 17 KO’s) for the interim WBA World super bantamweight title on June 16th at the Veldrome, in Manchester, UK.

Neither Munroe or Quigg are ready for a real world title and the interim job will keep the winner in safety for a little while until they eventually have to face the WBA super bantamweight champion Guillermo Rigondeaux. He would totally slaughter Quigg and Munroe, likely on the same night back to back.

As for the Munroe-Quigg fight on June 16th, Munroe’s got this one in the bag in my view. Quigg is a straight up slugger without much in the way of boxing skills. He just goes right after his usually over-matched opposition and runs them down on brute strength alone. Quigg, 23, hasn’t had to fight a good fighter like Munroe, because his match-making has been against all domestic level opposition up to this point with fringe world class past his best fighter Jason Booth thrown in to add a name. Quigg has done what he’s needed to do against this fodder opposition but Munroe is a much different element. He can punch and box, and that’s going to be all it takes for him to make punching bag out of Quigg on June 16th.

I see Munroe clowning the plodding Quigg and making him look ready. Quigg isn’t ready for Munroe right now. I think he needs another four to five years for Munroe to age out to where he’s lost his hand speed, power and boxing ability and can be picked off by Quigg. But right now, Munroe still has his skills 100% intact and it’s going to be a one-sided fight. Quigg will need to go back to the drawing board after this fight.
