Image: Quigg-Arthur, Munroe-Saez on SaturdayBy Scott Gilfoid: Unbeaten British super bantamweight champion Scott Quigg (23-0, 16 KO’s) defends his title on Saturday night against challenger Jamie Arthur (18-5, 4 KO’s) at the Reebok stadium, Bolton, Lanchashire, UK. Also on the card will be Rendall Munroe (23-2, 9 KO’s) facing Jose Saez (21-12-6, 11 KO’s) in an eight round stay busy fight.

Quigg, 23, looks to be a level better than the 32-year-old Arthur and it’s hard to see how this fight will be competitive unless Arthur can land a big shot to take Quigg out. I don’t think it’s going to happen.

Arthur has lost three out of his last five fights and hasn’t scored a knockout since 2008 when he stopped Dai Davies (5-9-1) in the 2nd round. This is really just a mismatch disguised as an actual fight. I don’t know how the Brits can get hot and bothered about this fight. Arthur’s career looks to be sinking and he didn’t have the tools to beat Quigg even when he was in his prime.

Quigg will win no doubt, likely by a knockout. He has some choices to make after the fight. He can take on whip Barry McGuigan’s prized pupil Commonwealth super bantamweight champion Carl Frampton (12-0, 8 KO’s), who is very beatable, or Quigg can face Munroe to see if he can make him look silly like WBC super bantamweight champion Toshiaki Nishioka did in his lopsided 12 round decision win over Munroe in October 2010. I think both of those choices are pretty lame.

A better choice for Quigg is to ignore Munroe and Frampton and go after some world eliminator bouts so that he can get a shot against one of the super bantamweights champions.

Munroe, 31, is facing a weak opponent in 36-year-old Jose Saez (21-12-6, 11 KO’s) of Argentina. I don’t know why Munroe is going after an easy mark like this but I guess Munroe is still licking his wounds from his one-sided decision loss to Nishioka. Saez has lost two out of his last four fights.
