floyd432By J E Bond: Respected fight figure and close aide to high powered manager Al Haymon, Sam Watson, has confirmed that the highly anticipated super fight between WBA/WBC welterweight champion Floyd Mayweather Jr and World Boxing Organization welterweight champ Manny Pacquiao is about to be announced and will land at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas on May 2nd in a unique joint HBO-Showtime venture.

The ball is almost certainly now in Mayweather’s court although Watson, who is a close confidant of the American champion, has now added some much-needed credence to the various rumors that has been floating about since December.

Watson “They’re putting it together now,” Watson stated via the Boxingobserver.com. “They’re going to do a Showtime-HBO joint pay-per-view card like they did last time with Lennox Lewis and Mike Tyson. They’re working on the monies now and everything they’ve got to work on to make it happen. I can’t wait. It’s going to be huge.”

HBO and Showtime worked together to co-broadcast the Lennox Lewis and Mike Tyson fight. It is understood that HBO and Showtime spent 15 months working out a deal do to conflicting interests.

Respected ESPN writer and reporter Dan Rafael has just Tweeted, that: HBO’s Plepler & Hershman/Showtime’s Blank & Espinoza met at NYC restaurant Wednesday to discuss Pacquiao-Mayweather possible network deal. Which seems to add weight to what Sam Watson has said today. Furthermore would the heads of these two rival “families” (Showtime and HBO) really be meeting at the round table to iron out the well known TV deal if there was still some doubt? The wheels have come full circle and the fight that has been on everybody’s lips can now be believed.

***Editors note***

If this turns out to be true boxing fans are going to be seeing one of the biggest fights ever in the sport. The Mayweather-Pacquiao fight is expected to break the all-time record of 2.4 million pay-per-view buys set by Mayweather and Oscar De La Hoya. In fact, the Mayweather vs. Pacquiao fight should smash the record by a considerable margin.
