price3By Scott Gilfoid: #9 WBO, #13 IBF heavyweight contender David Price (18-2, 15 KOs) suffered a biceps injury while training for his fight this Saturday, December 6th against little known journeyman Emilio Ezequiel Zarate (18-13-3, 9 KOs at the EWE Arena in Oldenburg, Germany.

The injury will keep the soon to be 32-year-old Price out of the fight. Just how long the injury will take to heal is unclear. You’ve got to hope for the 6’8” Price’s sake that he isn’t forced to stay out of the ring for too long, because he’s no spring chicken and he can’t be wasting time licking his wounds for extended periods of time.

If Price is going to get a title shot, he’s going to need to stay as active as possible, because he’s not fighting the type of opposition that will get him pushed up the rankings quickly. Price has won his last three fights in beating Istvan Ruzsinszky, Ondrej Pala and Yaroslav Zavorotnyi. Obviously, Price isn’t going to get pushed up the rankings quickly facing the kinds of guys he’s been fighting for the past year. His fight against Zarate would have done zero for his career, because we’re not talking about a fighter with the kind of resume or standing that would help Price.

‘’It’s frustrating as I felt that I was in the shape of my life going into this fight,’’ said Price. ‘’I’ve been to see a specialist, who confirmed it was nothing serious, but advised me to avoid the fight on December 6.”

Price’s promote Kalle Sauerland expects 2015 to be a big year for him. Just how big is unknown. I mean, you can’t expect Price to have a big year in 2015 if he’s going to be wasting time fighting the likes of Zarate and other journeyman level opposition. Price and Sauerland are going to need to step up the level of opposition if they’re going to make a move on one of the heavyweight titles.
