Adrien Broner: I’ll fight Manny Pacquiao

By Chris Williams: Former three division world champion Adrien Broner (27-1, 22 KO’s) says he wants a piece of WBO welterweight champion Manny Pacquiao and he doesn’t care which weight it takes place. Broner feels he’ll beat the 35-year-old Pacquiao if given the chance. Would Pacquiao’s promoter Bob Arum let him fight Broner or would this be another fight that won’t happen? It would be nice for a change to see Pacquiao fighting someone else not named Juan Manuel Marquez and Tim Bradley.

“S***, I aint scared to fight that mother f*****. Tell him to come on, I’ll fight him. I don’t care where the fight would be. We can fight at 115,” Broner said to Boxing Socialist.

That would be a good fight, and it would be some new blood for Pacquiao instead of the never-ending rematch cycle he’s caught on – and likely never get off of for the remainder of his career. It’s just too bad that a fight between the Golden Boy promoted Broner can’t fight the Top Rank promoted Pacquiao, because it would be a good fight.

That’s the whole trap that Pacquiao is in right now. With him with Top Rank, he can’t fight the quality guys like Broner, Amir Khan, Floyd Mayweather, Saul “Canelo” Alvarez, Danny Garcia, Lamont Peterson, Keith Thurman, Devon Alexander, Robert Guerrero, Shawn Porter, Paulie Malignaggi and Lucas Matthysse.

Those would be fights that would last the rest of Pacquiao’s career. Instead of those guys, Pacquiao is looking at more fights against Bob Arum’s Top Rank stable fighters Brandon Rios and Juan Manuel Marquez. The new blood, if you want to call it that, will be Mike Alvarado, Jessie Vargas, Khabib Allakhverdiev and possibly the Banner Promotions fighter Ruslan Provodnikov. I don’t know about you, but I’d rather see Pacquiao fight the Golden Boy fighters that that list from Top Rank.

I’d mildly interested in seeing Pacquiao fight Provodnikov and Marquez, but if that’s all there is and all there’s going to be for Pacquiao until he hands up his gloves in a couple of years then that’s pretty sad. Marquez will probably face Pacquiao in September for a fifth time, and depending on how things go, we might see a 6th and 7th fight. It stopped being a great fight for me after their 2nd fight.

I think Broner would have a good chance of beating Pacquiao if that fight were to get made because he’d make him miss with his shoulder roll and would pick him off with shots.

Broner needs to get by his May 3rd fight against Carlos Molina before going after one of the title holders at 140.

“I’m going to whip Carlos Molina’s a**,” Broner said. “I’m supposed to be the chosen one, to take over the sport of boxing after my big brother Floyd is done.”
