Image: Charr has to push the pace against Vitali to winBy Allan Fox: Unbeaten heavyweight contender Manuel Charr (21-0, 11 KO’s) has been given a real gift in landing a title shot against WBC heavyweight champion Vitali Klitschko (44-2, 40 KO’s) on September 8th on HBO at the Olimpiyskiy, in Moscow, Russia. It’s a great chance for the 27-year-old Charr because Vitali is now 41, and he’s showing vulnerability now more than ever before due to his age.

Charr doesn’t have great boxing skills, but he does appear to have a good chin and decent power. That’s more than enough to win this fight if he can push a fast pace that wears down the Ukrainian. We just Vitali get worn out by a limited British heavyweight Dereck Chisora last February in Munich, Germany. Vitali did win the fight, but he was totally exhausted by the end of the fight. Had Chisora been able to a lot of throw punches while in the process of pressuring Vitali, he would have won the fight because he would have worn Vitali down completely.

Charr isn’t known for having a high work rate or having good speed, but it’s possible that he can take his game to another level against Vitali for this one fight, because there’s so much riding on it. The payday that Charr gets against Vitali is nothing compared to the kind of money Charr can get in a rematch against him as well as a big money fight against former WBA heavyweight champion David Haye.

Those two fights would be out there for Charr, and he could really cash in big time if he can just find a way to get past the 6’7″ Vitali. This isn’t going to be nearly as difficult as it would be for Charr if he were taking on Wladimir Klitschko, who is a lot more athletic and powerful compared to Vitali. Charr has it easy in comparison and he just needs to put enough pressure on Vitali to win the fight.
