Image: Pacquiao is a thorn in Floyd’s fleshBy Frank (Frankly) Livingstone: As Floyd Mayweather Jr prepares for his upcoming fight with Miguel Cotto this Saturday, it seems that he cannot escape facing the inevitable question from the media about a potential fight with the Fighter of the Decade, Manny Pacquiao.

Floyd has a number of options in responding to this, but surprisingly in his interview with ESPN in an article dated May 2, Floyd said that it is “basic common sense” that Pacquiao has used performance enhancing drugs and getting in the ring with him would be a risk to his future health. Health is more important than anything, Because guess what? When my career is over, If I’m hurt because of something that has happened in a fight, I can’t come to you and say, “I need money”.

Wow, so it is out in the open now folks. Floyd alluding Pacquiao in on PEDS and fighting Pacquiao is not good for his health. Floyd insists that he is not “SCARED” but he “CARES” about his health. Bob Arum only comment upon hearing this is that Floyd is giving ammunition to Pacquiao’s defamation case against him.

My previous article, “Floyd hesitates for health reasons” I posted a number of months ago, drew a lot of criticism from this site since Floyd did not specifically stated that he is avoiding Pacquiao for health reason. I hope the recent Floyd interview would confirm my view.

I am confused on the real reason for Floyd’s reluctance to fight. Manny Pacquiao has agreed publicly that he will take the test so the barrier has been cleared. Floyd now sees the purse split as another barrier to clear. Floyd insists that his offer of $40 million dollars to Pacquiao was fair value while he keeps the $100 million plus in PPV revenue. Floyd portrays himself as the Greatest of all time or “GOAT” but I rather portray him as the greatest seeker of SCAPEGOAT whether it is Bob Arum, PEDS, purse split etc…. for the mega fight not to happen.

It is quite unfortunate that Pacquiao’s integrity is once again put into question. Floyd should have responded to it in a more positive way and move on. Whether this rant was a ploy to beef up the PPV numbers for his fight with Cotto or a genuine concern for his health is part of the Floyd enigma. But I know how I feel when I have an annoying pain cause by a thorn in my skin feels like and it is not a healthy feeling. I know how Floyd feels in this instance.
