Image: Is time running out for the Floyd Mayweather Jr. vs. Manny Pacquiao fight?By Gerardo Granados:Floyd Mayweather Jr. is not getting any younger and the Congressman Manny Pacquiao wants to follow a political career as a full time job in the near future. Unarguably this is the most anticipated fight in many years.

Boxing fans battle every day on boxing blogs arguing who is the best and who would win, both parties accuse the other of been afraid, one side says Floyd is afraid of Pacman because Manny is too good for him to defeat, meanwhile the other side states that Pacquiao is afraid to take Olympic style drug tests to demonstrate he is clean.

If the fight materializes then it certainly would set all kind of records, purse, tv ratings, pay per view sales, sports writers articles, sports media coverage, the battle between Pacquiao fans vs Floyd fans would be an epic evil war between keyboard warriors world wide.

It would be interesting to see who would be favored by the betting odds.

Manny debuted at 17 years of age back in 1995 and now he is almost 33 years old but due his aggressive boxing style he gets hit a lot so the punishment has piled up during seventeen years, meanwhile Floyd debuted at 19 years of age back in 1996 and he does not get hit a lot but after sixteen years as a pro boxer his long vacations might hurt his timing and reflexes too, he has shown no signs of ring rust yet but at 34 years old there is no guarantee that he will keep been at the top of his physical abilities and so are his legs.

It would be a shame to see these two fighters engage when one of them is past his prime.

This fight has the potential to be as good as the Chavez vs. Taylor I, Sugar Ray Leonard vs. Tomas Hearns I, Roy Jones Jr. vs. Bernard Hopkins I, Oscar De la Hoya vs. Tito Trinidad, but it is very probable that boxing fans wont have the chance to see it happening any time soon.

Every time there is talk of the fight taking place all kinds of problems come up to the negotiation table to stop the fight from happening. This fight might end up as the Tyson vs. Holyfield I fight, it took to long to be made, by the time the fight was finally done Tyson was no longer in his prime. Can you imagine if Oscar De la Hoya had faced a prime Julio Cesar Chavez? It would have been a great fight. Or a prime Kostya Tszyu vs. Ricky Hatton? Or Tito Trinidad vs. a prime Pernell Whitaker?

Kronos won’t forgive Manny and Floyd, and he will make them feel what father time can do to your body. Let’s just hope that by the time this fight takes place it won’t be too late. Do you think this fight will take place next year, or if it will ever take place?
