Dawson will be looking to take a page out of the playbook that Joe Calzaghe used in beating Hopkins by a 12 round decision three years ago.

According to Dan Rafael, Dawson says he’s going to throw between 1000 and 1200 punches against Hopkins to “dethrone the old man.” If that’s the case, then it should be an easy win for Dawson because Hopkins struggles to throw 50 punches per round. If Dawson can throw at least 83 punches per round, he’ll end up with a 1000 over 12 rounds. To get to 1200, Dawson will have to throw 100 punches per round.

Dawson will have to focus less on jabbing and more on throwing combinations. Lately, Dawson has been talking about wanting to jab a lot and not get hit by Hopkins. It will be impossible for Dawson to get anywhere close to 1000 or 1200 if he’s just pecking away with his jab and trying to dodge Hopkin’s shots.

Dawson said “Hopkins can’t touch me, He won’t touch me.”

Dawson says he’ll win by a 12 round decision over Hopkins. He’s smart enough to realize that it’s very, very hard to knock out a fighter like Hopkins. It would be a waste of time to try. The way to beat Hopkins is to throw a lot of fast combinations and try to throw as many punches as you can. Hopkins tends to go into the defensive mode when he’s getting punches thrown at him. And while Hopkins does throw counter shots, he only does it consistently when his opponent is throwing at a low to medium rate. If you look at Hopkins fight with Calzaghe, Hopkins wasn’t doing a lot of counter punching. He was covering up and throwing a rare power punch and doing a lot of flopping on the canvas.
