Roach wants 60-40 for Pacquiao in Mayweather fight – News

By Eric Thomas: Trainer Freddie Roach thinks that making a deal for a fight with unbeaten Floyd Mayweather Jr. won’t be an easy task for his fighter World Boxing Organization welterweight champion Manny Pacquiao. Roach had this to say to Philstar:
The money is going to be an issue unless the sides can agree to come in at the same price. Roach not only wants Pacquiao to get the bigger slice of the pay-per-view revenue, but he also wants the bout to take place at another catch-weight.
It’s unclear if Pacquiao’s World Boxing Organization welterweight title would be on the line for the fight if Pacquiao does end up fighting Mayweather. Pacquiao captured the WBO title last Saturday night in a 12th round knockout over Miguel Cotto, in a fight that took place at a 145 pound catch weight instead of the normal 147 pound welterweight limit. Between Mayweather getting the smaller cut and then having to come in at a 145 pound catch weight, the fight would seem dead in the water if those are the final terms from Pacquiao’s side.
Roach says that Pacquiao would have to have a different fighting style for the Mayweather bout. “We [Pacquiao] need time to get ready for that fight. We have to come out with a real different style,” Roach says. You can say that again. Pacquiao would have to change his fighting style in a major way for a fight against Mayweather, because he fights nothing like Pacquiao’s last three opponents. Mayweather won’t be trying to trade shots with Pacquiao like Oscar De La Hoya, Ricky Hatton and Cotto did. All three fought more or less by standing directly in front of Pacquiao and trying to trade shots with him.
Roach doesn’t think a fight against Mayweather would be nearly as interesting as the Cotto fight ended up, saying “Cotto came to fight and Mayweather comes to run. He [Floyd] makes a boring fight, but a lot of people will buy tickets to see him lose.” Roach is right. Mayweather won’t stay and trade with Pacquiao, because his entire came in build around his defense and his ability to punch and move. Cotto was able to avoid getting hit when he started moving in the 2nd half of the fight. You could expect that Mayweather will do much better than Cotto did in that department.
Mayweather is faster than Cotto, and a much better counter puncher compared to him. Pacquiao, in effect, could be facing a bigger, faster version of Juan Manuel Marquez if he chooses to fight Mayweather. Marquez gave Pacquiao fits in his two fights with the Filipino star, fighting to a draw in their first fight and then losing a 12 round split decision in their second bout.

Manny doesn’t talk much. He just work hard in the gym and punch so hard in the ring. It’s not part of Manny’s personality to discredit his opponents and claim victory before the fight. His humble spirit made him a much, much loved fighter by the vast majority. Nobody can take out the world’s respect for Manny. Floyd is skilled, talented, and very fast. But his loud mouth and extreme braggings are more than enough to dull his accomplishments and drive away fans and would-be fans. Love and respect for Manny; hate and boos for Floyd. No matter who wins in the ring, this truth remains.
floyd mayweather jr is the most borring fighter i’ve ever seen i paid 55$ to see him fight baldomir and half of my friends went to the other bedroom to watch porn… i paid again to see him fight marquez and my girlfriend was arguing with me that she’d rather watch police women of broward county.. then i put pacquiao on ppv and all my friends including girlfriend just sat in amazement as the pound 4 pound champion manny pacquiao gave us our moneys worth… i would pay $150 just to watch manny sing!!!

lets see. I think it would be better if both guys will put their natural weight on and split to the middle. Then MP will get +1% of the purse for putting more weight while PBF will get +1% (hence deducting 1% from manny’s purse)for every pound he needs to loose from his catch weight. I think both will come up with at least 55/45 in favor of manny.

There is much talk of opensteroid abuse by Pacman’s camp and Freddie is intentionally making the fight a non-starter by his idiotic demands.
If Pacman holds a welter belt then he should bloody well fight at the welter of 147 and stop asking his opponents to weaken themse;ves by trying to boil down to the 145 that is natural to Pacman. The the even more ludicris request for 60% of the purse. Freddie need no delude himself that the boxing public are all about Pacman … many of us true boxing fans have long had deep respect for what Floyd Maywaether Jnr is and brings to the table.
Simple solution : Fight at the corrct 147, with a 50/50 split of the gate and pay-per-view. Easy … and no bloody excuses from Roach on behalf of his fighter. stopp running scared, Freddie … your Boy will lose abd you know it too !!!!

It might happen. Probably at least one more tune up fight for PBF though. He just watched a guy he’s ducked for years be schooled by a “midget.”
PBF is all talk right now. He wants the greater share of the revenue and probably won’t budge. He is going to price himself out of the fight and will blame others for the fight not being made for May 2010.
PBF will fight a B or C level fighter and his PPV numbers are going to disappoint. I think everyone other than his nuthugging boyfriends can sense his tired and exposed BS.
Roach is just doing his job and setting up the opening parameters for negotiating. Remember, negotiating is a game that takes a little time. However, I believe when it comes down to it, Team Pacquiao are game at 147lbs and 50-50. Will PBF?

I don’t hate Pacquiao or Roach but I don’t considered him as a great boxer, because every time he fight, always all in favor on he’s side with the approval of the people behind the close curtain.
In Roach statement that Cotto have problem of losing weight. First Cotto was defeated by Margarito who has a bricks in his globe, then he fall in Roach trick. Miguel Cotto accepted a catch weight of 145lbs in favor of Pacquio because he want to prove to the boxing world that he could win the fight to a person who gain weight and power, while he is losing and draining, that’s lead him to his most painful defeat in his entire career, But even with his condition Cotto give Pacquiao a good beating, that’s indication that, in his real natural weight Pacquiao will suffer the most worse defeat in his entire career. When Marvin Hagler and Sugar Ray Leonard fought theirs no catch weight.
Welterweight limit are 147lbs and up, now Pacquiao win one of the belt in welterweight in 145lbs catch weight, should the commission will change the weight of welterweight just to accommodate the goose that lay the golden egg in favor of Roach and Pacquiao
After winning the belt to Diaz Pacquiao became a mega buck to the media, magazine and etc…. Oscar DeLa Hoya see all of this opportunity, so Dela Hoya made the most interesting match in his carier to challenge Pacquiao that will make a megabuck, but certainly on Pacquiao advantage, and the next is Hatton in Pacquiao advantage also to be sure, the goose that lay a golden egg will keep on producing a golden egg. The last of this victim is Cotto as we all observe. Do you believe that a man who could knock a big guy, could not even shake a small guy even an inch and in the nine round doesn’t know were he is. Ibrar Arshaid – where are you getting those lists from where the fighters that Floyd fought were ranked….Hatton was NOT #2 pound for pound…he was ranked around #8-9 and ODLH was NO WHERE near #2. I’m not even sure if he was ranked in the top 10 pound for pound. He was like the #5 Junior Middleweight, so no way he was #2. Floyd had a great career at the lower weight divisions, but look at the top Jr. welterweight, welterweight, and Jr. welterweight and name 4 guys that Floyd’s fought.

It’s 60/40 in favor of Manny and surely he will fight Floyd at 147,but the problem is Floyd will ask everything in his favor,this match will not happen next year,because Manny will fight Yuri Foreman for his 8th titles or he will fight JMM at 140,may be Floyd vs Pacman will happen on september to november2010 before Pacman retires on 2011
Have you forgotten, Pacquiao is also the junior welterweight champion. Why not fight in that division. Pacquiao has been moving up why not have them move down if they want a piece of the pie. True, PBF may not be as exciting to watch as MP for the casual fans, but that’s because he is a defensive-minded fighter. I honestly feel Pacquiao should fight Mayweather at 147 because thats what Mayweathers gonna come in as anyway and thats the actual weight of the division. As far as split, it should be 50/50.
winner gets 70 and loser gets 30..but boxing always lacks the best fighting in their prime..
