Weights: Burns 134.25, Crawford 134.5

burns666By Scott Gilfoid: WBO lightweight champion Ricky Burns (36-2-1, 11 KO’s) made weight today for his title defense on Saturday night against the highly talented American Terence Crawford (22-0, 16 KO’s) in Glasgow, Scotland. Burns weighed in at 134.25 lbs, and he looked in good shape as always. Burns’ recent problems in the ring have nothing to do with his conditioning, and more to do in terms of him suffering an injury against the big punching Raymundo Beltran.

Crawford weighed in at 134.5 lbs, and he looks to be in even better shape than Burns. Crawford’s midsection looked like it was carved out of a block of marble. He obviously worked hard during training camp.

Will Burns continue to live the dream or will Terrence Crawford turn it into a nightmare?

burns7By Robbie Bannatyne: After two consecutive below par performances, WBO lightweight champion Ricky Burns is at somewhat of a career roads as he embarks on his 10th world title defence against unbeaten American, Terrence Crawford. It really is win or bust at world level for Ricky Burns, who suffered a broken jaw when he was badly beaten in his last fight against perennial contender Raymundo Beltran.

That night many thought the dream was dead and buried for Ricky Burns, the end of an incredible journey that, in the beginning, not even his own trainer thought he was capable of. In reality, Burns has already achieved beyond his wildest dreams by becoming a two weight world champion with a string of successful defences.

Crawford: Ricky Burns has all of Scotland depending on him

burns5By Scott Gilfoid: #1 WBO Terence Crawford (22-0, 16 KO’s) is totally unfazed by Matchroom Sport promoter Eddie Hearn flapping his gums about how 13,000 fans will be cheering madly for WBO lightweight champion Ricky Burns (36-2-1, 11 KO’s) this Saturday in their fight at the Scottish Exhibition Centre, Glasgow, Scotland, United Kingdom. Hearn thinks that Crawford will be unnerved by the screaming from the Scottish crowd, and that i turn will cause him to lose the fight.

Crawford had this to say about the pro-Burns crowd: “Ricky has got the whole of Scotland depending on him. In the States we’ve got lots of world champions. In Scotland there’s only one – Ricky Burns. The whole country is riding on Ricky because without him what is Scotland? The fans won’t like it, but I am fine…What can they do apart from yell and scream?”

Hearn: Crawford doesn’t know he’s in for on Saturday against Ricky Burns

crawford453By Scott Gilfoid: WBO lightweight champion Ricky Burns’ promoter Eddie Hearn thinks that unbeaten challenger Terence Crawford (22-0, 16 KO’s) is in for a big surprise this Saturday night in their important match in Glasgow. Hearn thinks Burns (36-2-1, 11 KO’s) will beat the undefeated American Crawford and expose him. How Burns will go about doing that is the big question because he’s considerably slower than Crawford, and honestly, Burns looks like he’s on his last leg as this point.

“Crawford is a real golden boy in America and is backed by Bob Arum’s Top Rank Promotions and HBO,” Hearn said to Sky Sports. “I honestly don’t think he knows what he’s in for on Saturday night…I don’t think what 10,000 people, especially Scottish people, are going to sound like…I think it’s a huge advantage for Ricky. It makes a huge, huge difference. We will see how special he is when he hears it.”

Hearn: Burns will beat Crawford

crawford4543By Scott Gilfoid: Matchroom Sport promoter Eddie Hearn thinks WBO lightweight champion Ricky Burns (36-2-1, 11 KO’s) will be pulling off a big upset this Saturday night against challenger Terence Crawford (22-0, 16 KO’s) on March 1st. Aside from Burns’ own fans, there aren’t too many people giving him any chance in this fight.

Burns is seen pretty much as someone on his last legs walking sluggishly into what will be a one-sided beating that will end with Crawford taking his title from him when the two go at it front of a packed house a the Scottish Exhibition Centre, Glasgow, Scotland, United Kingdom.

Terence Crawford – Why I don’t believe the hype

crawford1111By Euan Gilchrist: One of my earliest memories of Boxing came on Saturday night 25th of February 1995. The whole of the UK (or at least the 7 or 8 people around the TV in my house) held its breath as the Sound of Big Ben Chimed and Nigel Benn made his way to the ring to fight Gerald McClellan. The press had made it clear this was a big ask, the commentators were writing his obituary as he walked to the ring and you could feel the tension of the fans in the arena through the TV screen.

What unfolded was one of the most brutally entertaining fights that I have ever seen. The aftermath was tragic but the fact remains that Benn upset the odds. Benn to me will always be defined by his rivalry with Chris Eubank but when I look back on his career this in my opinion was his greatest fight.

Burns-Crawford: Ricky will need to raise his game to win

burns555By Scott Gilfoid: WBO lightweight champion Ricky Burns’ next title defense is just a little over a week away against Terence Crawford on March 1st in Glasgow, Scotland. This is a fight that the odds are very high that Burns will lose in an embarrassing manner in front of his own fans.

The reason for that is because Crawford is a much better fighter than anyone that Burns has faced before during his career, and he’s also getting Burns at the right moment of his career. In his last two fights against Jose Gonzalez and Raymundo Beltran, Burns has showed serious signs of being a washed up fighter that is on his last legs.

Burns’ trainer thinks his experience will be crucial against Crawford

burns637By Scott Gilfoid: Billy Nelson, the trainer for WBO lightweight champion Ricky Burns (36-2-1, 11 KO’s), believes that Burns’ experience against top caliber opposition will help lead him to a victory over #1 WBO Terence Crawford (22-0, 16 KO’s) next month on March 1st at the Scottish Exhibition Centre, Glasgow, Scotland, United Kingdom.

“What I an expecting is the toughest fight that either boxer has had so far in their career and for me that is where Ricky’s experience could prove crucial,” Nelson said via the eveningtimes.co.uk. “Crawford has not fought at world title level and he has never been out of his comfort zone. That is the place we are looking to take him on March 1.”

Arum concerned with judging for Burns vs. Crawford fight

burns7575By Scott Gilfoid: Top Rank promoter Bob Arum says he spoke to the president of the World Boxing Organization Francisco “Paco” Valcarcel to make sure that the best judges are working the March 1st fight between Arum’s fighter unbeaten #1 WBO Terence Crawford (22-0, 16 KO’s) and WBO lightweight champion Ricky Burns (36-2-1, 11 KO’s) at the Scottish Exhibition Centre, Glasgow, Scotland, United Kingdom.

Arum doesn’t want any controversy like what we saw with Arum’s fighter Raymundo Beltran in his last fight with Burns in September of last year. Beltran totally dominated Burns in the fight, yet he had to settle for a 12 round draw. I had Burns winning all of one round in the fight, and even then the one round I gave him was a mercy round. I don’t even think he deserved to win one round of the fight. Burns was that bad.
