Pacquiao vs. Bradley analysis, and more!

Manny PacquiaoBy Ross Walker: In what has been declared as Manny Pacquiao’s final fight of his illustrious career, the modern-day boxing legend is said to face one of three prospective opponents. The indications are that one of Terence Crawford, Timothy Bradley or Amir Khan will receive the honor of facing Pac-Man.

The decision was supposed to be announced on two separate occasions but has thus far remained un-announced. The apparent reason for the delay is rumored to be due to a lack of agreement between the Pacquiao camp and promoter Bob Arum. One would have to assume that Manny is consulting with members of his vast entourage which includes his family, advisor (Michael Koncz), promoter Bob Arum and of course his trainer, Freddie Roach.

Crawford vs. Beltran averages 836,000 viewers on HBO

crawford5222222By Dan Ambrose: Last Saturday night’s fight between WBO lightweight champion Terence Crawford and Raymundo Beltran brought in disappointing ratings on HBO “Boxing After Dark” from Omaha, Nebraska. The Crawford-Beltran fight averaged 836,000 viewers with a peak of 936,000 viewers, according to Dan Rafael of ESPN. This was below the average of 898,000 for an HBO BAD fight.

While there could be many reasons to explain the lack of interest in the Crawford vs. Beltran fight, such as the late start time, you have to look at the fact that neither of these guys have much of a fan base as of yet in terms of casual boxing fans.

Crawford beats Beltran by boring decision; Gradovich-Velez fight to draw

YouTube video
By Dan Ambrose: WBO lightweight champion Terence Crawford (25-0, 17 KOs) successfully defended his WBO title tonight in beating #1 WBO Raymundo Beltran (29-7-1, 17 KOs) by an incredibly boring 12 round unanimous decision on Saturday night at the CenturyLink Center, in Omaha, Nebraska, USA. The judges scored the fight 119-109, 119-109 and 120-108, all for Crawford.

As much as I liked Crawford’s performance tonight, I must say it was one of the most boring performances I’ve seen from a champion in some time. When you note that HBO is no longer televising Guillermo Rigondeaux’s fights on their network, it makes you wonder why, because he’s arguably a much entertaining fighter to watch than Crawford.

Beltran sees the Crawford fight as a champion vs. Champion match

burns555By Allan Fox:
#1 WBO Raymundo Beltran will be challenging WBO lightweight champion Terence Crawford on November 29th on HBO from Omaha, Nebraska. Despite being only a contender in this fight, Betran believes that he’s a champion because of his fight against former WBO lightweight champion Ricky Burns last year in September.

The judges scored the fight as a 12 round draw even though Beltran dominated the last 11 rounds of the fight and even knocked Burns down. It was arguably a robbery and it was a definite setback to Beltran’s career, especially after the World Boxing Organization ordered Burns to fight Crawford instead of him afterwards.

Evgeny Gradovich vs. Jayson Velez on Crawford-Beltran card on 11/29

velez5By Dan Ambrose: IBF World featherweight champion Eveny Gradovich (19-0, 9 KOs) will be defending his IBF title against #2 WBC, #12 IBF, #12 WBA, #12 WBO Jayson Velez (22-0, 16 KOs) in the co-feature bout on the Terence Crawford vs. Raymundo Beltran fight card on HBO on November 29th at the CenturyLink Center, in Omaha, Nebraska, USA.

The Gradovich-Velez fight could turn out to be an even better one than the main event between Crawford and Beltran, because Gradovich and Velez will be mixing it up the entire time. With Crawford, you can count on him fighting with his usual counter punching style, and that’s generally less than exciting unless he’s forced to fight like he was in his last fight against Yuriorkis Gamboa last June.
