Burns’ trainer thinks his experience will be crucial against Crawford

burns637By Scott Gilfoid: Billy Nelson, the trainer for WBO lightweight champion Ricky Burns (36-2-1, 11 KO’s), believes that Burns’ experience against top caliber opposition will help lead him to a victory over #1 WBO Terence Crawford (22-0, 16 KO’s) next month on March 1st at the Scottish Exhibition Centre, Glasgow, Scotland, United Kingdom.

“What I an expecting is the toughest fight that either boxer has had so far in their career and for me that is where Ricky’s experience could prove crucial,” Nelson said via the eveningtimes.co.uk. “Crawford has not fought at world title level and he has never been out of his comfort zone. That is the place we are looking to take him on March 1.”

In other words, Burns will be bum rushing Crawford all night long, or as long as this fight lasts, and hoping that he can somehow wear him down the way he supposedly did against Jose Gonzalez. If Burns chooses to try and force the fight on Crawford in hopes of wearing him down, it’s going to end badly for Burns with him getting knocked out quickly.

I got to call this one like I see it, and I don’t see Burns as having any chance at all whatsoever in this fight. I know Burns is going to try and turn the fight into a war, but he doesn’t stand a chance of beating Crawford even in a war. He just doesn’t have the skills or the power to beat this guy, and it’s going to be really bad for Burns. I see him in for a real clowning on March 1st from start until the bitter finish.

Crawford has already fought two fighters that are probably better than Burns right now in Alejandro Sanabria and Breidis Prescott, and Crawford beat both of them. I would pick Prescott to knock Burns out if the two of them were to fight, and I think Sanabria would have a good chance of doing the same thing.

The only way I see Crawford losing this fight is if he gets robbed the same way that Raymundo Beltran did in his fight against Burns last September. Beltran broke Burns’ jaw and knocked him down, and yet all he got out of the fight was a 12 round draw. Crawford obviously has been briefed by his promoter Bob Arum of Top Rank to go after Burns and make sure he knocks him out so that he doesn’t risks finding himself in the same boat as Beltran.
