50 Cent: Top Rank isn’t protecting Crawford for Gamboa like Mikey Garcia

gamboa4(Photo credit: Rey Sanchez) By Dan Ambrose: 50 Cent, the promoter for former IBF/WBA featherweight champion Yuriorkis Gamboa (23-0, 16 KO’s), says that Top Rank Promotions was afraid of matching one of their most popular fighters Mikey Garcia up against Gamboa for fear that he’d lose the fight, and this in turn would hurt them. However, they don’t feel the same way about the less popular WBO lightweight champion Terence Crawford (23-0, 16 KO’s), who Gamboa will be facing this Saturday night at the CenturyLink Center, in Omaha, Nebraska, USA.

50 Cent says that Crawford isn’t seen by Top Rank in the same way as Mikey Garcia. In other words, it’s less of a blow to them if Crawford gets beaten by Gamboa than it does with Garcia, who Top Rank is trying to turn into a PPV attraction. Crawford, as good as he is, is far, far away from ever becoming a PPV type fighter.

Yuriorkis Gamboa vs. Terence Crawford this Saturday night on HBO from Omaha, Nebraska

gamboa4343By Allan Fox: This Saturday night, WBO lightweight champion Terence Crawford (23-0, 16 KO’s) will be making his first title defense against unbeaten former IBF/WBA featherweight champion Yuriorkis Gamboa (23-0, 16 KO’s) in what could prove to be the most difficult fight of the 26-year-old Crawford’s career when the two of them face each other at the CenturyLink Center, in Omaha, Nebraska, USA. The fight will be televised by HBO.

For Crawford, this will be his first fight in which he faces a guy with hand speed similar to his own, and with amateur experience greater than his own. Up until this fight, Crawford has been fighting guys that didn’t have the amateur pedigree that he came from, but in facing Gamboa, Crawford will be taking on a guy with an Olympic gold medal from the 2004 Olympics, and extensive fights at the amateur level.

Gamboa not worried about Terence Crawford’s technical skills

gamboa67(Photo credit: Rey Sanchez) By Dan Ambrose: Former IBF/WBA featherweight champion Yuriorkis Gamboa (23-0, 16 KO’s) has no worries at all bout the technical skills of WBO featherweight champion Terence Crawford (23-0, 16 KO’s) for their fight this month on June 28th at the CenturyLink Center, in Omaha, Nebraska, USA. Gamboa, 32, grew up fighting nothing but technical fighters in Cuba and while fighting in the Olympics in 2004 in winning a gold medal for Cuba. Gamboa isn’t worried at all about what the 26-year-old Crawford brings to the table on June 28th.

“Coming from Cuba, the guys were technical and had size, and I fought them a lot. Me, I’ve perfected my strategy to fighting these type of fighters,” Gamboa said. “I think this will be a counter-vs-counter match. Objective is to get him to the middle range where I can use my speed.”

Passing of the torch from Mayweather to?

floyd000134Crawford v Gamboa

Passing of the torch?

With Floyd ‘Money’ Mayweather threatening retirement the big question must be, Who takes over from him as the worlds best boxer? There are so many governing bodies and titles these days that the real boxing fan tends to pay more attention to ‘Ring magazine’ and lb for lb ratings to determine who is the main man.

We may need to look no further for that man than June 28th 2014, when Terence Crawford defends his WBO lightweight title against Yuriorkis Gamboa. Mayweather has previously stated that when he retires either Broner or Gamboa will be the man to take his mantle. With ‘The Problem’ exposed against Maidana and the emergence of the so far flawless Crawford this fight could be huge for the future of the sport.

Yuriorkis Gamboa faces Terence Crawford on 6/28 in Omaha, Nebraska

crawford332By Dan Ambrose: In a battle of unbeatens, WBO lightweight champion Terence Crawford (23-0, 16 KO’s) will put his WBO 135lb title on the line against Yuriorkis Gamboa (23-0, 16 KO’s) next month on June 28th at the CenturyLink Center, in Omaha, Nebraska, USA. This is one of the better lightweight bouts the division has seen in the last few years. Gamboa has looked impressive since turning pro in 2007, as he’s won two titles [IBF/WBA] in the featherweight division, and he’s looked good since moving up to the lightweight division.

Crawford has also been very impressive lately. He defeated WBO lightweight champion Ricky Burns by a 12 round unanimous decision last March. Crawford easily out-boxed a very good fighter in that bout, and had Burns looking totally befuddled for the most part. Recently there was talk of Crawford defending his WBO title against No.1 WBO Raymundo Beltran, but the Gamboa fight opened up for Crawford after Top Rank was unable to set up a fight between Gamboa and the Top Rank promoted Mikey Garcia.

Hearn: Burns asked for a rematch with Crawford

hearn65By Scott Gilfoid: With the way that Ricky Burns (36-3-1, 11 KO’s) was whipped last Saturday night by the unbeaten talent Terence Crawford (23-0, 16 KO’s) in losing his WBO lightweight title in their Glasgow, Scotland based fight, you would think that Burns shouldn’t get any closer than 4 thousand miles so that he could never suffer another one-sided loss to him again. But Burns doesn’t care that he was beaten up and dominated in losing a 12 round unanimous decision.

Burns says he wants to fight Crawford again if his promoter Eddie Hearn can set up the fight for him, which I doubt he can.

Crawford dominates Burns; Joshua stops Avila

crawford655By Scott Gilfoid: In masterclass performance, unbeaten #1 WBO Terence Crawford (23-0, 16 KO’s) easily beat WBO lightweight champion Ricky Burns (36-3-1, 11 KO’s) by a 12 round unanimous decision on Saturday night at the Scottish Exhibition Centre, in Glasgow, Scotland, United Kingdom. The final judges scores were 115-112, 115-112, 117-111.

Crawford got better and better as the fight went on. In the 4th and 5th rounds, Crawford flurried on Burns in seemingly hurting him. In both cases, Burns would retreat to the ropes and just cover up like a sparring partner.

Burns: I’m going to take Crawford out of his comfort zone

burns6262By Scott Gilfoid: WBO lightweight champion Ricky Burns (36-2-1, 11 KO’s) is facing the moment of truth tonight in his battle against American Terence Crawford (22-0, 16 KO’s) at the Scottish Exhibition Centre, in Glasgow, Scotland, United Kingdom. While Burns is saying he’s going to use a couple of different plans to try and defeat the talented 26-year-old Crawford, pretty much no one is giving Burns any chance at all in him actually winning the fight.

I mean, Burns’ fans obviously are giving him a chance at winning, but the fans that see the fight for what it is – a mismatch – see Burns as being at the end of the line and ready to be beaten badly. Burns already dodged a couple of bullets in his last two fights against Jose Gonzalez and Raymundo Beltran in escaping from those two bouts without a loss, but Crawford is a heck of a lot better than those two guys.
