Thompson: I want Tyson Fury next in the U.S

YouTube video

By Scott Gilfoid: Tony Thompson (37-3, 25 KO’s) says he wants the trash talking Brit Tyson Fury (20-0, 14 KO’s) next, but it’s going to have to be in the United States unless Fury’s promoter wants to give him a lot of money to fly over to the UK and fight him.

Thompson feels he was underpaid to the extreme for coming over to the UK to fight David Price last Saturday night, and he doesn’t want that to happen again.

Fury: Thompson is getting it from me for knocking out Price

price#2By Scott Gilfoid: It seems that Tyson Fury’s nationalist pride is showing itself after American Tony Thompson knocked out Britain’s David Price in the 2nd round last Saturday night in Liverpool, England.

Thompson was supposed to be the sacrificial lamb dragged in from America for Price to look good against, but Thompson flipped the scrip against the novice and exposed his glass ear by bopping him a good one with a right hand that ended the fight.

Fury said on his twitter “I’m gonna spank this little b*** Tony Thompson all around the ring! Granddaddy is getting it for KOing Price!! I’ll get him for u @davidprice. Thompson is old as s*** & been KO’d two times! Ill KO him after Cunningham. Tony Thompson where are you? You’re getting it after your mate Cunningham along with any other American heavyweight.”

Deontay Wilder comments on Thompson’s upset of Price

price56By Scott Gilfoid: Undefeated American heavyweight contender Deontay Wilder (27-0, 27 KO’s) was stunned at hearing the news about American Tony Thompson’s surprising 2nd round knockout win over Britain’s David Price (15-1, 13 KO’s) last Saturday night.

Thompson beat the UK’s best heavyweight, and beat him the best way you can by knocking him out. In a thinly veiled reference to unbeaten Tyson Fury, Wilder say there will be other heavyweights that will get exposed in 2013.

Wilder said on his twitter “I told them not to sleep on Tony omg [oh my God].. Never sleep on any fighter a lot of them will be #exposed this year. Never disrespect the national anthem. #SoDisrespectful.

Price not sure if he’ll face Thompson again

price5By Scott Gilfoid: David Price (15-1, 13 KO’s) is still debating right now whether he should look to avenge his 2nd round knockout loss to Tony Thompson (37-3, 25 KO’s) or just walk away and avoid a potentially dangerous confrontation. Price says he’ll be meeting with his promoter Frank Maloney next week to decide which direction they should go in.

Price said at the post-fight press conference “It’s just one of those things. It wasn’t that big of a shot. It’s where it caught me. I have to regroup. I didn’t take a sustained beating. We’re still going to become a world champion. We’re not in a bad position. I’ll make sure this doesn’t happen again. It was a freak thing. Of course, when someone beats you, you want to get it right. We’ll have a chat next week to see what’s happening. We’ll decide what’s best moving forward.”

Thompson proves there are no experts in boxing

price49By Mark Havey: For a lot of boxing writers around the world it seemed a mismatch and they were certain of it. Tony Thompson would be whipped out by the hard hitting mountain. As a quiet and humble man, David Price had gained a lot of fans. His unbelievable power earned him even more.

Even certain American writers including those at Boxingnews24, refused to support their man. They called Tony Thompson an old man and echoed the thoughts of others, that this was a mismatch. I’m sure their articles will change dramatically.

The Echo Arena was buzzing with thousands of fans. David Price had seemed unbeatable and was on the right path for a title shot in the near future. Fans in Britain felt that David Price was the hardest puncher in the world and would simply knockout anyone he hit, and it would take just minutes to do it. To be fair Price was the better fighter. A right hook in round 2 sent him crashing down with a look of shock evident on the faces of the audience.

Price vows to come back after loss to Thompson

price48By Scott Gilfoid: British/Commonwealth heavyweight champion David Price doesn’t see his 2nd round knockout loss to Tony Thompson tonight as being a big deal. Price sees it as just a blip on his career radar, and he feels that he’ll be right back where he was before this loss three fights from now.

Price said after the fight “I’ve been doing that to other people since I turned professional. It’s heavyweight boxing, nobody’s invincible. I’ll come back from it. I didn’t take a beating in there tonight; it was one of those shots. It caught my ear and my balance had gone…three fights down the line, this will be ancient history.”

It sounds like Price is rationalizing about his defeat. Coming back from a knockout like this won’t be easy, and the guys that he’s knocked out in the past aren’t doing so well. It’s a big deal getting knocked out. It’s not as if it’s a good thing, especially if he decides that he’s not going to try and avenge his defeat.

Price’s promoter Maloney collapses after his knockout defeat

price47By Scott Gilfoid: Frank Maloney, the promoter for British heavyweight champion David Price (15-1, 13 KO’s), reportedly collapsed at ringside following Price’s 2nd round knockout loss to 41-year-old American Tony Thompson tonight at the Echo Arena in Liverpool, England.

This was supposed to be an easy fight for Britain’s best heavyweight, but Thompson hit Price with a right hand in the 2nd that sent him down to the canvas. The fight was then stopped after Price got back up because he was still too unsteady on his feet to continue. Price suffered a perforated eardrum for his left ear.

As for Maloney, he was taken away by ambulance after sinking to his knees while in conversation, according to the telegraph.co.uk.

Price’s knockout loss surely finishes, at least for now, his dreams of capturing a world title. This is a huge setback for the 29-year-old Price because it’s going to knock him backwards in the world rankings, and he’s probably going to need to think seriously about trying to avenge his loss by facing Thompson again to try and prove the loss was just a fluke.

Thompson defeats Price in shocking upset!

price43By Scott Gilfoid: American heavyweight Tony Thompson (37-3, 25 KO’s) beat Great Britain’s best heavyweight in David Price (15-1, 13 KO’s) tonight by a 2nd round TKO to expose him as being little more than hype in front of a packed house in Liverpool, England.

Thompson was getting dominated in the 2nd round when he decided to test Price’s chin to see if the rumors about his vulnerability to hard shots was true. As it turns out it was true, as Thompson put Price down with a glancing right hand that Thompson threw while stumbling over Price’s lead left foot.

It was one of the strangest punches that you’ll see because it barely landed due to Thompson almost falling while throwing it. However, the shot caused Price to drop like a sack of potatoes on the canvas.

David Price vs. Tony Thompson tonight in Liverpool

price2228By Scott Gilfoid: Unbeaten David Price (15-0, 13 KO’s) will continue with his steady course of facing aging fighters when he takes on 41-year-old Tony Thompson (36-3, 24 KO’s) at the Echo Arena in Liverpool, England.

This is what you call a fight where a young lion with a questionable chin faces an old toothless lion with little time left at the top of the sport. Thompson, #11 IBF, is still ranked in the top 15, but he’s not going to remain there for long unless he goes back to fighting the 2nd tier opposition he’d been facing from 2008 to 2011.

Thompson was destroyed by IBF/IBO/WBA/WBO last July in a 6th round stoppage, and he’s not fought since. It’s not so much that Thompson was stopped in that fight, but how incredibly awful he looked.

By Scott Gilfoid: Heavyweight Tony Thompson (36-3, 24 KO’s) looked flabby today in weighing in at a career high of 262 pounds for his fight against unbeaten David Price (15-0, 13 KO’s) for Saturday’s fight at the Echo Arena, in Liverpool, United Kingdom. Price looked solid at 247, and looks like he trained hard for the fight.
