Pacquiao: I would have kept fighting [against Marquez] and the results would have been worse

pac89By Chris Williams: Manny Pacquiao says he would have gotten up after being knocked down by Juan Manuel Marquez in the 6th and continued to fight if he could have, but Pacquiao fears that he would ended up even more hurt.

Pacquiao said to the Manila Bulletin at mb.com.ph “If I had the strength to get up at the time, I would have fought back with Marquez and I would probably have received more punches. The result would have been more devastating.”

Pacquiao-Marquez 4: Lucky Punch; I Beg To Differ

marquez562By Miguel Antonio “Miggs” Barragan: Comedian and UFC color commentator Joe Rogan has said countless times “There is no such thing as a lucky punch.” To a certain point, I think I agree with him. He stresses that if a fighter throws wild haymakers or even if he closes his eye and throws a Hail Mary, that fighter is throwing that punch with bad intentions, skill or not.

If that punch lands flush on its target and knocks out that opponent, it’s immediately considered a lucky punch. But do lucky punches even exist? I’m going to go out on a limb and say no.

Dana White: Arum shouldn’t have matched Pacquiao against Marquez

pac92By Chris Williams: UFC president Dana White thinks that Top Rank promoter Bob Arum made a huge blunder by putting his #1 cash cow fighter Manny Pacquiao in with Juan Manuel Marquez for a fourth fight recently. White thinks that was a really bad, bad move by Arum because it was a risky fight.

White thinks the smart move should have been for Arum to put Pacquiao back in with Tim Bradley, so that Pacquiao could recapture his WBO welterweight title that he previously lost in a controversial decision last June.

Is Pacquiao’s loss a laughing matter?

pac63By Babatis Banda: For a while Pacquiao has been rated a top P4P fighter. In my eyes, he may still be. However, what happened in there with Juan Manuel Marquez is not ordinary. People may point to this and that as the major reason why it happened the way it did. The fact of the matter is that it did happen, and in the manner that it happened.

Everybody was in agreement, that Pacquiao needed to shut Marquez up once and for all about how he was previously robbed, for whatever number of times. We were also in agreement that Marquez, to have an upper hand on Pacquiao, he needed to knock Pacquiao out and how this was going to happen, nobody knew and it remained just a distant thought. The most important agreement was that this fourth fight was the real decider.

Mayweather Sr: Pacquiao won’t be the same fighter after his KO loss

pac92By Chris Williams: Trainer Floyd Mayweather Sr. doesn’t think Manny Pacquiao will ever be the same fighter he once was after he was knocked out by Juan Manuel Marquez earlier this month in a one-punch knockout loss that knocked Pacquiao unconscious for close to 2 minutes. Needless to say, any fighter gets knocked clean out like Pacquiao was has a chance of suffering additional knockouts in future bouts.

It would be sad to see Pacquiao tossed into the ring again with Marquez next June or September and then Pacquiao getting poleaxed again.

Will Pacquiao defeat become his greatest victory ever?

jinkee2By Mohamed Horomtallah: The disturbing and scary images of Manny Pacquiao motionless on the canvas are still on everybody’s mind. The brutal knocked down he suffered at the hands, or rather the perfectly timed right hand of Juan Manuel Marquez will have a big effect.

A knock out of that nature is not enjoyable because at the end of the day,  no fighter deserves to be seriously hurt. Watching Pacquiao’s wife Jinkee in tears and panicked was hard and for a few minutes, the fans in attendance and those watching around the world were worried that a great fighter might be actually dead. Those minutes seemed to last forever…

Pacquiao-Marquez 5 targeted for Cowboy Stadium in Texas next year

marquez62By Chris Williams: It looks like Bob Arum is going to try and maximize revenue for the 5th fight between Manny Pacquiao (54-5-2, 38 KO’s) and Juan Manuel Marquez (55-6-1, 40 KO’s) in 2013 with the fight taking place in the huge 80,000 seat Cowboy Stadium in Arlington, Texas, according to the Manila Bulletin.

Pacquiao has twice fought at the Cowboy Stadium and brought in big numbers of 40,000+ for his mismatches against Top Rank stable fighters Antonio Margarito and Joshua Clottey. The fights were ugly, one-sided affaires there not even close to being competitive fights, but a lot of boxing fans showed up to see them.

Pacquiao – Marquez thoughts

marquez5By Van Dunn: On last week the boxing world was treated to what is now viewed as a potential fight of the year and most certainly the knockout of the year when Manny Pacquiao and Juan Manuel Marquez clashed for the 4th installment of their classic bouts. First of all, we must congratulate Marquez on his “Rocky” like performance in finally conquering his demons of not getting a clear cut victory over his nemesis in the seemingly indestructible Manny Pacquiao.

What Pac fans are calling a “lucky punch”, was actually a “perfect punch” when Marquez connected on a devastating right hand that dropped Pacquiao cold and ended the fight abruptly.

The precious second that transformed Pacquiao and Marquez

marquez562By Frank (Frankly) Livingstone: It has been a week since that fateful night. Wow, we got what we wanted in that fight. Two knockdowns with both fighters enduring a knockdown each in the process up to 2:59 of round six. Manny Pacquiao was more aggressive in this fight and the damage he inflicted is clearly shown from the bloody face and a suspected broken nose on Marquez.

Surely, the end is coming soon rather than later. Then 2:59 of Round six, the unexpected happened. A scene that would forever changed the life of both fighters one second before the end of Round six.

Hatton: Marquez didn’t knock Pacquiao out with a lucky punch

marquez9025By Chris Williams: Former two division world champion Ricky Hatton doesn’t believe that Juan Manuel Marquez’s 6th round knockout win over Manny Pacquiao last Saturday night was the result of Marquez somehow getting lucky and landing a homerun right hand on the chin of the Filipino. Hatton saw it as pure skill on Marquez’s part that propelled him to victory by hitting a wide open Pacquiao when he forgot his defense and didn’t realize he was in with a highly skilled professional.

Hatton said to Philstar.com “I was surprised how big [Marquez] was. He was extremely big. I don’t think it was a lucky punch that hit Manny. Marquez waited for his chance. It was a perfect punch. Manny got careless coming in and Marquez took advantage of the opportunity.”
