De La Hoya thinks Clottey is “Easy fight” for Pacquiao, says Mayweather would beat Manny

Image: De La Hoya thinks Clottey is “Easy fight” for Pacquiao, says Mayweather would beat MannyBy Esteban Garduno: In the latest boxing news, Golden Boy Promotions president Oscar De La Hoya chimes in with his own prediction on the Manny Pacquiao vs. Joshua Clottey fight for this Saturday night, saying in an interview with Sky Sports, “I think Manny Pacquiao will have an easy time with Joshua Clottey. Styles make fights and his [Clottey] defense is one where he blocks punches, then he has to bring his hands down to look at you and then throw punches. Manny is too fast to stay there in the pocket and receive punches. I believe he will hit him then move side to side.”

Arum needs Pacquiao-Clottey to bring in big PPV numbers

Image: Arum needs Pacquiao-Clottey to bring in big PPV numbersBy Chris Williams: If Top Rank promoter Bob Arum expects to have leverage for a future fight against Floyd Mayweather Jr., then this Saturday’s fight between Manny Pacquiao and Joshua Clottey will have to do really well in terms of Pay-Per-View buys. The reason is because if the fight sells poorly to the boxing public, it could make it harder for Arum to get a better financial deal for Pacquiao when it comes to setting up a fight against the unbeaten Mayweather. This, of course, is contingent upon Mayweather beating 38-year-old Shane Mosley on May 1st.

Pacquiao-Clottey: Two Warriors Inspired By Two Proud Nations

Image: Pacquiao-Clottey: Two Warriors Inspired By Two Proud NationsBy Peter Wells: Maybe if things were taken back in time I’d be writing about the biggest fight ever between Mayweather and Pacquiao. A fight inspired by money and fame. But instead I’m writing about a fight inspired by two proud nations and legacy. It may not appeal to people who don’t enjoy boxing unless it’s a super fight, but to true fans this is a great fight and a fight that inspires greatness. Manny Pacquiao and Joshua Clottey have both come from nothing to superstars and loved by whole nations.

What can Clottey do to beat Pacquiao?

Image: What can Clottey do to beat Pacquiao?By Jason Kim: Former IBF welterweight champion Joshua Clottey has always been known as a tough fighter because of his power, speed and his ability to rough up his opponents during the course of a bout. However, as good as Clottey is, he’s limited in that he fights in spurts, and spends a lot of time covering up or laying on the ropes. Freddie Roach, the trainer for Manny Pacquiao, has noticed Clottey’s many flaws and has pointed them out. If Clottey is to beat Pacquiao, he’s going to have to spend more time throwing punches and less time focusing on defense.

Margarito, 31, hasn’t fought since losing his World Boxing Association welterweight title to Shane Mosley in January 2009. Before the fight, a plaster-like substance was found on his hand wraps. Margarito later on lost his boxing license to the California Athletic Commission.

Arum and Roach prefer Pacquiao to fight Mosley next

Image: Arum and Roach prefer Pacquiao to fight Mosley nextBy Chris Williams: If Top Rank promoter Bob Arum and trainer Freddie Roach had their ways, World Boxing Organization welterweight champion Manny Pacquiao would be facing WBA welterweight champion Shane Mosley next and not unbeaten Floyd Mayweather Jr. Both Roach and Arum see it easier to deal with Mosley and set up a fight compared to Mayweather, who will likely ask for Olympic style random blood testing to be done before he’ll step in the ring with Pacquiao.

Prediction: Clottey is going to tear Pacquiao apart

Image: Prediction: Clottey is going to tear Pacquiao apartBy Dave Lahr: Okay, so first of all Manny Pacquiao is in deep trouble this Saturday night. Joshua Clottey is going to be bringing size and power that Pacquiao has never seen before in his career. This time Pacquiao will actually be facing someone that is still able to take shots without flopping around on the canvas like a fish out of water. I know I’ve wrong in the past about some of my predictions, but believe me, I’m going to be right this time. Pacquiao is going to look like a war survivor by the end of this fight.

“Irish” John Duddy 28-1, 18 KO vs. Michael Medina 23-1-2,18 KO

10 Rounds Middleweight Division (160 lbs)

When looking into the combatants previous contest I noticed this is going to be a step up in weight for Medina. Medina’s last 9 fights where held in the Junior Middleweight Division at 154 pounds. Being the younger fighter at 23 years of age its possible he has out grown 154 pounds and is ready to move up in weight. However when ever a fighter moves up in class it always raises questions if they can carry their power up in weight with them.
