Would Clottey have beaten Pacquiao if he threw 1200 punches like him?

Image: Would Clottey have beaten Pacquiao if he threw 1200 punches like him?By Esteban Garduno: Manny Pacquiao ended up throwing more than 1200 total punches in defeating former International Boxing Federation welterweight champion Joshua Clottey by a one-sided 12 round unanimous decision on March 13th at the Cowboys Stadium. What was lost in the win was the accuracy, the power and the way that Clottey was able to badly mark up Pacquiao’s face with his shots, despite the fact that Clottey only threw one-third of the amount of punches that Pacquiao threw in the fight.

Pacquiao’s PPV numbers against Clottey don’t compare to Mayweather-Marquez numbers

Image: Pacquiao’s PPV numbers against Clottey don’t compare to Mayweather-Marquez numbersBy Chris Williams: If Manny Pacquiao wanted to get an even split of a future revenue split in a fight against Floyd Mayweather Jr., he didn’t help himself with his numbers for his March 13th bout against Joshua Clottey. ESPN reported today that the Pacquiao-Clottey fight netted just 700,000 pay-per-view buys. That might be a decent number for a fight against a little known fighter like Clottey, but sadly they don’t compare to the numbers that Mayweather brought in with his 1 million PPV buys in his last fight against Juan Manuel Marquez last September.

Does Pacquiao lack the ring expertise to beat Mayweather and Mosley?

Image: Does Pacquiao lack the ring expertise to beat Mayweather and Mosley?By Esteban Garduno: I have to admit that what I saw of Manny Pacquiao against Joshua Clottey didn’t give me a feeling that Pacquiao could beat or even compete with the likes of Shane Mosley and Floyd Mayweather Jr. Boxing is a science, a sport of the mind if you will. The fighters are ones that are experts at ring strategy and who know how to capitalize on their opponents mistakes. I see Mosley and Mayweather being the ultimate ideal at coming up with a strategy to beat their opponents and then following it to the letter. Sadly, I didn’t see that from Pacquiao in his fight with Clottey.

Pacquiao wants to fight in the Cowboy Stadium again

Image: Pacquiao wants to fight in the Cowboy Stadium againBy Jason Kim: World Boxing Organization welterweight champion Manny Pacquiao reportedly wants to fight at the Cowboys Stadium again after defeating Joshua Clottey by a lopsided 12 round decision last Saturday night in front of 50,000 screaming fans. The fight may have been a disappointment due to Clottey not really bringing his A game on that night, but it was still an interesting card due to all of the young prospects that fought on the undercard.

Pacquiao-Clottey PPV Numbers

Image: Pacquiao-Clottey PPV NumbersBy Alexander Fugate: Pacquiao-Clottey is estimated to have between 650,000 and 700,000 PPV buys. While this is a good number for most fighters, its no where near the number of people who pay to see Floyd Mayweather Jr. fight. Many Pacquiao fans have been insisting he is the biggest draw in boxing.

However, those who make that erroneous claim ignore the facts and just reiterate over and over again without any proof or numbers to back it up. Mayweather was a hair from doubling Pacquiao’s PPV buys against De La Hoya.

Arum sees Pacquiao-Clottey producing 650,000 PPV buys or more

Image: Arum sees Pacquiao-Clottey producing 650,000 PPV buys or moreBy Esteban Garduno: In the latest boxing news, Top Rank promoter Bob Arum says he sees the Joshua Clottey vs. Manny Pacquiao bout winding up with no less than 650,000 buys, according to Dan Rafael of ESPN. Arum thinks that the numbers could end up much higher than 650,000 for the Clottey bout, which would be great news for Pacquiao, because if he can prove that he can bring in huge numbers against an obscure opponent like Clottey, who the public has no clue about, then it means that Pacquiao can bring in equally huge numbers against any fighter that’s selected for him to fight.

Pacquiao fought a dumb fight against Clottey

Image: Pacquiao fought a dumb fight against ClotteyBy Chris Williams: I’ve watched the Manny Pacquiao vs. Joshua Clottey fight a couple of times now and I have to say that I think Pacquiao fought about the dumbest fight I can ever imagine a fighter doing. I’ve seen son poorly fought bouts before, but Pacquiao’s performance last Saturday night really takes the cake. If not for the fact that Clottey fought an even worse fight, I think Pacquiao would have been beaten easily.

Clottey thinks Pacquiao would give Mayweather a lot of problems – News

Image: Clottey thinks Pacquiao would give Mayweather a lot of problems – NewsBy Esteban Garduno: For what it’s worth, Joshua Clottey believes that Manny Pacquiao would give unbeaten Floyd Mayweather Jr. a lot of problems if the two were eve to fight. In an article at the Philippine Star, Clottey says “To be frank with you, the fight [Mayweather vs. Pacquiao] will be very tough for Mayweather. Pacquiao is very fast and he keeps on throwing punches. Mayweather doesn’t throw too much, so Manny will give him problems, lot’s of problems.” That may might be, but Mayweather is a lot better at moving than Clottey proved to be last Saturday night.

Is Pacquiao starting to slow down?

Image: Is Pacquiao starting to slow down?By Chris Williams: Manny Pacquiao didn’t look all that impressive to me last Saturday night in beating Joshua Clottey by a 12 round decision. The hand speed wasn’t there, and neither was the movement and power. And looking at how badly Pacquiao was gasping for breaths in between rounds, it seemed like he wasn’t in shape. I don’t whether Pacquiao is long for the welterweight division unless he plans on getting out of the sport soon. I can see a point in the very near future where Pacquiao will start to take major punishment if he chooses to stick around much longer.

Clottey partly blames his loss on backside problem

Image: Clottey partly blames his loss on backside problemBy Esteban Garduno: Joshua Clottey says he was suffering from another type of bout the night he fought Manny Pacquiao last Saturday night, this one involving his backside. Clottey apparently had a bout of diarrhea, a bad case where after eating a stew consisting of Banku and Okra, it caused Clottey to fly to the toilet 10 times between the night before the fight and the day of the fight. Going with your backside that many times had to have depleted water from Clottey’s system, making him weaker than he might have been otherwise.
