By Esteban Garduno: Freddie Roach has been talking long hard for anyone that wants to hear him about how his fighter Manny Pacquiao is going to beat Joshua Clottey on March 13th. As you would guess, a lot of the predictions by Roach have made its way back to Clottey and angering him to the point where he seems totally obsessed with punishing Pacquiao and taking his World Boxing Organization welterweight title on Saturday night. Roach may think he’s doing Pacquiao a favor by trying to get into the head of Clottey with his trash talk, but it could make things much tougher for Pacquiao, because he’s the one that will have to be in the ring with the angry and committed Clottey, not Roach.

Pacquiao is used to having his way against a recent rag tag variety of beaten up and aging fighters but on March 13th, Pacquiao is going to find that he can’t penetrate through Clottey’s impregnable clamshell defense. By Chris Williams: Joshua Clottey (35-3, 20 KO’s) is counting on Manny Pacquiao to be throwing a lot of punches when he fights him on Saturday night at the Dallas Cowboy Stadium. Clottey is ready for anything that Pacquiao will be bringing to the ring, and he won’t be catching Clottey off guard if he tries to obliterate him with a massive amount of punches in the early rounds of the fight. In an article at the Press Enterprise, Clottey said “He [Pacquiao] throws a lot of punches to people when he sees an opening. He won’t see the openings with me.”

By Esteban Garduno: Top Rank promoter Bob Arum says he thinks that this Saturday’s fight between World Boxing Organization welterweight champion Manny Pacquiao and challenger Joshua Clottey will do as well as the Pacquiao vs. Miguel Cotto bought in terms of pay per view buys, according to an interview of Arum at Boxing Talk. The Pacquiao-Cotto fight sold 1.25 million pay per view buys, which a good portion of it was driven by fan interest in seeing Cotto fight. Arum says that at the least, he sees the Pacquiao vs. Clottey fight doing no worse than 900,000 to 1 million PPV buys.

By Dave Lahr: Freddie Roach, the brilliant trainer for Manny Pacquiao (50-3-2, 38 KO’s), says that they will be trying to get a knockout win over the usually steel-chinned Joshua Clottey on March 13th. Roach says in article at Sport.stv.tv, “We’re going to throw [Clottey] off in the first four rounds. He has never been attacked like this before.” Roach then later predicted a 6th round knockout win for Pacquiao. There you have it. Roach is planning on sending Pacquiao out on an attack mission to try and score an early knockout against Clottey.

That’s not correct. At only 5’9”, Clottey isn’t what you would call a big welterweight. There are much bigger welterweights than him. Paul Williams, Kermit Cintron and Antonio Margarito are big welterweights.

Roach likes to start high with his knockout predictions and then come down in the rounds as the fights draw nearer. In this case, Roach started with a 12th round knockout win for Pacquiao, and then last week changed it to a 9th round knockout. Now suddenly Roach is shooting for the 6th or 7th rounds.
