By Dave Lahr: Okay, I’ve seen the Pacquiao-Clottey fight, and I now think Pacquiao should consider himself the luckiest man on the face of the earth that he wasn’t facing Floyd Mayweather Jr. instead of Joshua Clottey last night at the Dallas Cowboy Stadium. Mayweather would have boxed the socks of Pacquiao and given headaches for ages. As it was, Clottey hit Pacquiao at will. Really, it was like Clottey couldn’t miss with his shots. Granted, it would have helped if Clottey had at least thrown a few more punches and shown an interest in actually winning the fight instead of just looking to survive.

By Chris Williams: I hate to say I told you so, but I did. I knew the Manny Pacquiao vs. Joshua Clottey fight was going to be a total mismatch. And for the many Pacquiao fans, including trainer Freddie Roach, who said that Clottey was the type of opponent that would bring an exciting fight, you were dead wrong. How could Roach be so ignorant of Clottey? I’ve see Clottey fight at least 10 times and I knew all he was capable of doing was just covering up. If Roach didn’t know that too, shame on him.

A vast majority felt Clottey would cover up too much and not throw enough punches to win rounds and didn‘t possess the power to knock Manny out. This feeling was based on the fact that Clottey has only one knockout in the last five years and loves to cover up blocking his opponents shots and not throwing anything in return for long stretches. This sentiment was proven by the odds, which made Pacquiao a seven and a half to one favorite.

By Eric Hernandez: As I await tonight’s welterweight battle I find myself asking Why. Why would Manny Pacquiao risk a big money fight With Floyd Mayweather by fighting a guy in Joshua Clottey. That will be extremely difficult to look good against, he has a tough chin and his defense will make it difficult for Pac Man to dominate him the way he dominated both Oscar Dela Hoya and Miguel Cotto.

By Dave Lahr: Manny Pacquiao has been in some minor battles during his career, but nothing like what he’s going in store for him tonight against Joshua Clottey. It’s been ages since Pacquiao’s has been in with a fighter that could stand up to him. Juan Manuel Marquez comes to mind as the last fighter that Pacquiao was put in with who had a great chance of beating him. Marquez ended up losing a controversial 12 round split decision to Pacquiao in March 2008, but was never given a rematch for some reason.

By Esteban Garduno: Freddie Roach seems to be conflicted about wanting Manny Pacquiao to fight Floyd Mayweather Jr. On one hand, Roach can’t stop talking about how much he wants Pacquiao to fight Mayweather next, and yet in the next breath, Roach is saying that Mayweather doesn’t make the rules in boxing. Roach, of course, is talking about the Olympic style random blood tests that Mayweather wants Pacquiao to take before he’ll fight him. For some strange reason that I’ll never understand, Roach sees this as a case of Mayweather trying to throw his weight around and push Pacquiao to do something he doesn’t want to do.

By Esteban Garduno: Tonight’s fight at the Dallas Cowboy Stadium is mostly filled with mismatches of the worst kind. On paper, the bout between Joshua Clottey and Manny Pacquiao figures to be an easy win for Pacquiao over a limited Clottey, but I see Clottey pulling off a huge upset over Pacquiao tonight to spoil Manny’s party. Clottey will stay in Pacquiao’s face, make him work harder than he has in ages, take his shots and punish the Filipino. Pacquiao has become accustomed to beating up on over-matched opponents and Clottey isn’t going to go down like the other guys that have been fed to Pacquiao in the past two years.
Is Pacquiao-Clottey a Pay-Per-View worthy fight?
By Chris Williams: The more and more I think about the Manny Pacquiao vs. Joshua Clottey fight the more I believe this fight should be on regular HBO and not on pay-per-view. The reason is simple. Clottey is about as basic a fighter that you’ll ever see. He throws few punches, covers up all the time, has no right hand and is a sitting duck on the ropes much of the time. Pretty much everyone knows he’s going to lose on Saturday, including Pacquiao’s trainer Freddie Roach, who talks nonstop for anyone willing to listen how Pacquiao is going to dominate this guy. Well I hope so.
Will Pacquiao continue to fight more Top Rank fighters after Clottey?
By Chris Williams: In case no one has noticed, Manny Pacquiao will have faced two Top Rank fighters in his last two fights when he takes on Joshua Clottey on Saturday night. And while Pacquiao’s trainer Freddie Roach has been flapping his gums 24/7 about wanting Pacquiao to fight Floyd Mayweather Jr., a non-Top Rank fighter, next, it’s not looking like Pacquiao will ever fight Mayweather in this life time judging from the comments that Roach has been making about not wanting his fighter to have to submit to giving blood tests in order to fight Mayweather.
