Reasons why Floyd will Select Khan as His Next Opponent

floyd600By Kenny Rodz: This is the first time I’ve ever written a sports article at all. So your feedback and criticism would be greatly appreciated.

It has been talked a lot that Floyd Mayweather Jr’s next opponent will be Amir Khan. Does Khan deserve a fight against the sport’s pounds for pound best in the World?

Well, looking at his lackluster performances in getting KO’d by Danny Garcia in 2012, losing to B-level fighter Lamont Peterson, and after getting knocked down while struggling to get a “home-cooking” close decision against whatever was left of a guy who used to be a decent fighter in his prime, Julio Diaz, we can clearly say that he doesn’t deserve that fight. But, looking at the business side of boxing, it would be the fight that would make all the sense in the world.

Is Floyd coming to Wembley?

floyd676By Rachel Aylett: Rumors persist and, indeed, grow increasingly stronger, that Amir Khan is likely to be Floyd Mayweather Jr.’s next opponent. Many people are aghast at such an apparent mismatch. Khan has not had a significant win since defeating Zab Judah in July 2011 in defense of his WBA/IBF light-welterweight titles. Since then he has been out-gamed by Lamont Peterson and badly stopped by Danny Garcia.

Khan has subsequently scored two low key victories, over ordinary Carlos Molina and past-his-best Julio Diaz, the latter not without difficulty. All these fights were at light-welterweight.

The last few months have been filled with talk of how Khan, now being trained by Virgil Hunter, would be moving up to welterweight in order to challenge Devon Alexander for the latter’s IBF title.

Khan to wait for Mayweather fight rather face Devon Alexander on December 7th

floyd65By Scott Gilfoid: Well, it looks like Amir Khan is going to wait for the Floyd Mayweather Jr. fight in May of 2014 rather than risk his hide in challenging IBF welterweight champion Devon Alexander on December 7th. Fighthype is reporting that Khan will be taking the safe route by avoiding the Alexander bout.

Instead of Khan fighting Alexander, it’ll be Zab Judah facing Alexander on a card with Paulie Malignaggi and Shawn Porter.

Golden Boy had been hoping that Khan would fight Alexander, because they promote Alexander in addition to Khan. It would have been a situation where Golden Boy would have been helping out both of their fighters. But it looks like wants the sure thing money fight against Mayweather rather than risking his neck against the fast and highly skilled Alexander.

Floyd Mayweather Jr. Could Face Amir Khan Next

floyd724by Miguel Alejandro Lopez: Floyd Mayweather Jr., (45-0), is coming off two big wins in 2013 against Robert Guerrero and former undefeated champion Canelo Alvarez. Shortly after the Alvarez fight, rumors began to circulate that Money’s next opponent is the British boxing star, Amir Khan (28-3). Although nothing is settled at this point, there has been several indications that the two will mix it up soon in Cinco De Mayweather 2014.

When Floyd Jr. is about to fight someone, his father is usually the first to spill it out to the media as a sort of advanced promotion. Floyd Sr. said to the press: “If there’s one fighter whose a** I want Floyd to whip it’s Amir Khan – he’s no outstanding fighter and as long as he stays here he’ll keep getting his a** whipped.”

Khan: I could be facing Mayweather next

khan42By Scott Gilfoid: Amir Khan said tonight that he could possibly be facing Floyd Mayweather Jr. next. He says his promoters at Golden Boy Promotions are currently in negotiations for his next fight.

Khan said “It [the Mayweather fight] could be next or one fight away. I think I’ll be a lot stronger at 147. I was realty draining myself to make 140. I walk around at 155. I’ll be able to take shots better. I’m in negotiations. I should know in a couple of weeks.”

I actually like this fight for both guys. It’s a better fight for Mayweather than fighting WBA/WBC junior middleweight champion Saul “Canelo” Alvarez because at least Khan would be fighting more or less at the same weight as Mayweather.

Is Amir Khan ready for Floyd Mayweather, Jr?

khan6712Floyd Mayweather, Jr will be in the ring once again before the end of 2013. It would be his second and last fight for the year. The question is, Who will he be facing? Better, Who is worth his time?

It is just about right to say that everyone in the Welterweight division wants a piece of the “Money”, but for the time being, I would like to focus on Amir Khan. There have been talks about the British Pakistani going against the current undefeated Welterweight champion of the world.

Khan Presents a Unique Challenge to Mayweather

khan53By Craig Hilton: A potential fight between Amir Khan and Floyd Mayweather has been subject to growing media attention and speculation. Amir Khan has elevated himself up the world rankings to a position where a fight between Floyd and himself is now becoming likely.

Amir seems to have been talking up a fight between the pair for a few years now and his dream contest is fast turning into reality. This clash of styles should be hyped over one significant factor: Amir Khan’s notoriously fast hand speed.

Mayweather wants to fight in UK; Khan the obvious target

mayweather2256By Scott Gilfoid: Floyd Mayweather Jr’s adviser Leonard Ellerbe is saying that Mayweather Jr. plans on fighting in the UK at some point in the near future. He doesn’t say who Mayweather will be fighting but it seems pretty clear that Amir Khan will be the target for Mayweather because it would be pointless for him to fight Kell Brook or the other little known welterweights and light welterweights in the UK.

Khan is the only game in town for Mayweather, but he better make that fight quick because Khan could get knocked out in his next fight if he’s serious about wanting to fight for a world title.

Mayweather Sr: I’d like to see little Floyd beat Amir Khan, but after he takes the test

Image: Mayweather Sr: I'd like to see little Floyd beat Amir Khan, but after he takes the testBy William Mackay: Floyd Mayweather Sr. wants to see his son Floyd Jr. take on and beat Amir Khan in the near future, because Floyd Sr. sees that as an appealing fight for his son to take. Mayweather Sr. doesn’t see it as a competitive fight, as he sees his on taking Khan apart. But before they would agree to a fight, Mayweather Sr. wants to see Khan take the test for performance enhancing drugs.
