Like it or not: Amir Khan will be fighting Floyd Mayweather Jr. in September

khan45677By M.Malik: Right after the ‘Fight of the Century’ on May 2nd (Floyd Mayweather Jr. vs Manny Pacquiao), the fans started speculating who Floyd Mayweather Jr. would choose as his last opponent in September. The list of names that were being mentioned included: Amir Khan, Keith Thurman, Gennady Golovkin, Danny Garcia and even Kell Brook.

Floyd Mayweather Jr. is known for keeping the opponents name secret until he feels the time is right to announce the name. The situation has changed somewhat since May 2nd and I think we have a better idea who that opponent could be given the facts pertaining to the situation.

Khan going back to his old style of fighting if he gets Mayweather bout

khan02222(Photo credit: Sumio Yamada) By Scott Gilfoid: Former IBF/WBA light welterweight belt holder Amir Khan (31-3, 19 KOs) says he’s going to go back to the old way that he used to fight if he can get the huge money fight Floyd Mayweather Jr. (48-0, 26 KOs) on September 12th.

Khan recently won a tough 12 round unanimous decision over Chris Algieri on May 29th of this year in a fight that was a lot closer than the scores that were handed down by the three judges. Khan won by the scores of 115-113, 117-111 and 117-111. However, many boxing fans thought Khan just barely won the fight by the score of 115-113, and some even thought it was a draw or a loss for Khan.

Amir Khan: Will his dream fight end his career?

khan6788By Ivan Godfrey: Amir Khan (31-3, 19 KOs) has been hankering for a fight with unbeaten superstar Floyd Mayweather Jr. for a long while now. However, I believe despite Khan’s huge pool of boxing talent, he should steer clear of this fight. My reasons are clear and Khan should consider them.

Amir Khan has made the mistake of believing that speed beats timing, which is never the case in boxing. Khan believes that simply because he has greater hand speed, he will not only be able to counter the shots from Mayweather, but load his own attacks without Floyd catching up with him. However, he is sorely mistaken.

Khan: Floyd Sr. knows I’m the guy that could beat his son

Amir Khan vs Devon AlexanderBy Scott Gilfoid: Amir Khan (31-3, 19 KOs) is still waiting with great anticipation to find out if he’s going to be the lucky guy that gets the golden ticket to face Floyd Mayweather Jr. (48-0, 26 KOs) in September at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Khan says he had words with Mayweather’s father/trainer Floyd Mayweather Sr., and he says it involved swearing. Khan feels that Floyd Sr. is very worried about his son facing him because he’s got the talent to give Mayweather all kinds of problems and possibly beat him.

Khan to Mayweather: Fight me and I’ll wear this glove

Floyd Mayweather fight me. Promise you il wear this glove for the fight. 😂😂😂

By Scott Gilfoid: In a sign of Amir Khan’s growing desperation to get a big money fight against Floyd Mayweather Jr. (48-0, 26 KOs) in September before the American superstar retires from the game, Khan took to his Instagram account this week to get in a shot at Mayweather. In the photo, Khan is wearing a gigantic “Title” glove with the caption “Floyd Mayweather fight me. Promise you’ll wear this glove for the fight.”

This was obviously a shot at Mayweather for him having some issues with his last opponent Manny Pacquiao’s use of the Reyes puncher’s gloves for the fight. Mayweather objected to the gloves due to what he felt was a lack of padding. Unfortunately for Mayweather, the Nevada State Athletic Commission had already approved the gloves a day before, and Mayweather was stuck facing Pacquiao with him wearing those gloves.

Froch: Khan doesn’t stand a chance against Mayweather

froch4444232By Scott Gilfoid: One of the many people who doesn’t think Amir Khan (31-3, 19 KOs) has a chance of beating Floyd Mayweather Jr. is former super middleweight champ Carl Froch. He thinks that Khan would have no chance of beating Mayweather if he’s the one who gets selected by the superstar for his September fight.

Froch points to Khan’s past losses to Danny Garcia, Breidis Prescott and Lamont Peterson as the reason for why Khan would have zero chance of beating Mayweather. Froch says that each time Khan has stepped up to the plate to face better opposition, he’s been beaten.

Khan will give Mayweather a harder fight than his last ten opponents, says Hamed

khan999999666(Photo credit: Lucas Noonan/Premier Boxing Champions) By Scott Gilfoid: Former IBF/WBC/WBO featherweight champion Naseem Hamed believes that Amir Khan (31-3, 19 KOs) will give Floyd Mayweather Jr. (48-0, 26 KOs) more problems next September than Mayweather’s last 10 opponents have given him.

In other words, Naseem sees Khan as giving Mayweather more problems than Manny Pacquiao, Marcos Maidana, Saul “Canelo” Alvarez, Robert Guerrero, Miguel Cotto, Victor Ortiz, Shane Mosley, Juan Manuel Marquez, Ricky Hatton and Oscar De La Hoya. Those are Mayweather’s last ten opponents.

Roach: Khan will never get Mayweather fight off that performance against Algieri

roach6By Scott Gilfoid: Amir Khan’s former trainer Freddie Roach wasn’t too impressed with Khan’s close 12 round unanimous decision win over Chris Algieri last month on May 29th at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York.

Roach didn’t go into specifics other than to cast doubt about the 28-year-old Khan’s chances of getting a fight against Floyd Mayweather Jr. on September 12th in Las Vegas, Nevada. As bad as Khan looked against Algieri, and believe me Khan was plenty bad, Roach doesn’t see him getting the fight against Mayweather.

Mayweather-Khan will do 800K PPV buys, says Rafael

Floyd Mayweather vs Manny PacquiaoBy Scott Gilfoid: If Floyd Mayweather Jr. (48-0, 26 KOs) decides on facing Britain’s Amir Khan (31-3, 19 KOs) next on September 12th, then Mayweather might want to think twice about taking that fight. ESPN’s Dan Rafael thinks the Mayweather vs. Khan fight will do no better than 800,000 pay-per-view buys on Showtime PPV. That’s obviously a huge departure from the tremendous PPV numbers for Mayweather’s recent clash against Manny Pacquiao last month on May 2nd at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada.

The final PPV numbers for that fight have still yet to be released in an official capacity, but the fight is expected to bring in over 5 million PPV buys in a duel HBO/Showtime telecast.
