Is Amir Khan ready for Floyd Mayweather, Jr?

khan6712Floyd Mayweather, Jr will be in the ring once again before the end of 2013. It would be his second and last fight for the year. The question is, Who will he be facing? Better, Who is worth his time?

It is just about right to say that everyone in the Welterweight division wants a piece of the “Money”, but for the time being, I would like to focus on Amir Khan. There have been talks about the British Pakistani going against the current undefeated Welterweight champion of the world.

And I am here today to give my views on why Amir Khan is definitely not suitable for the Mayweather Machine. Firstly, let’s look at their career achievements. Floyd Mayweather (44-0-0) currently holds the WBC Welterweight title and vacant The Ring Welterweight Title, he is undefeated and is a five-division world champion and has won eight world titles. Amir Khan (28-3-0), on the other hand, is a former four-time world champion. As you can see, their accomplishments are worlds apart. The standards of both boxers are of different levels.

Secondly, look at the opponents both boxers face Floyd Mayweather has fought the toughest and the best in his last two fights. He tore Miguel Cotto down in 2012 and made Robert “The Ghost” Guerrero look like a fool just this month. Whereas for Amir Khan, his last two fights had been with “tomato cans”. Last year, he took on the never-been-heard-of Carlos Molina and won by a tenth round TKO. And just last month, he stepped up his game with a baby step by going head to head with the over the hill Julio Diaz. Khan was knocked down in the fourth round and was by the skin of his teeth. In terms of experience, Khan is nowhere near Mayweather.

In conclusion, if the bout were to take place, it will be one sided. No doubt, Amir Khan has a few winning traits such as his agility and youth. But we’ve seen it too many times, these things don’t affect Floyd. Hands down, I would prefer to watch a Mayweather and Canelo fight. In my opinion, it would be more entertaining and more of a challenge to the great Mayweather.
