Hurd, 26, needed to get an exception to face #14 Trout by the International Boxing Federation, because he was supposed to fight #3 IBF Cedric Vitu in his first defense.

Purses: Wilder $900K, Washington $250K
By Jim Dower: WBC heavyweight champion Deontay “Bronze” Bomber” Wilder (37-0, 36 KOs) will be getting a purse of $900,000 for his title defense tonight against Gerald Washington (18-0-1, 12 KOs) at the Legacy Arena in Birmingham, Alabama. Washington will be getting a little less than Wilder with his purse being $250,000. That’s not bad money for a challenger with no big fight experience.
Wilder’s paydays should go up after the Washington fight. He could face Anthony Joshua next. Wilder I 31 now, and he needs to upgrade the level of his opposition for him to get the big money that we’re seeing from Joshua. The knock on Wilder is he’s been playing it safe in taking easy voluntary defenses of his World Boxing Council title since he captured the belt in January 2015.

Hurd beats Galarza; Stiverne defeats Rossy – results
(Photo Credit: Stephanie Trapp/SHOWTIME) By Jim Dower: In a tougher than expected fight, former WBC heavyweight champion Bermane Stiverne (25-2-1, 21 KOs) showed his age tonight in having to get up off the deck in the 1st round to comeback to defeat high level journeyman Derric Rossy (30-11, 14 KOs) by a close 10 round unanimous decision at the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada.
The final judges’ scores were 96-93, 96-93 and 95-94. Stiverne, 37, was fighting for the first time in 10 months since losing his WBC heavyweight title to Deontay Wilder last January. Stiverne looked both rusty and out of shape, as he weighed in at 254lbs on Friday’s weigh-in. That’s 15 pounds heavier than he was for his fight against Wilder.
