Hughie Fury takes huge risk against Andriy Rudenko this Saturday

fury67307 - CopyBy Scott Gilfoid: We’re only six days away before heavyweight prospect Hughie Fury (14-0, 8 KOs) takes a gigantic risk next Saturday, February 21st in his 10 round fight against Andriy Rudenko (24-1, 16 KOs) at the Salle des Étoiles, Monte Carlo, Monaco.

It’s a very strange and highly risky match-up for the 6’6” Hughie, given that he’s coming off of a long illness that has kept him out of the ring for many months since May of last year when he struggled to beat Danny Hughes.

Hughie Fury with tough test against Rudenko on February 21st in Monte Carlo

fury5656By Scott Gilfoid: 20-year-old unbeaten heavyweight prospect Hughie Fury (14-0, 8 KOs) may taste defeat for the first time on February 21st when he faces the tough as nails Andriy Rudenko (24-1, 16 KOs) on the Gennady Golovkin vs. Martin Murray card at the Salle des Étoiles, Monte Carlo.

The Fury-Rudenko fight is scheduled for 10 rounds, and you can bet that the fight will last that long unless Rudenko can get Fury out of there. You can’t count on Fury to score a knockout in this fight because he lacks the punching power to do any kind of damage to the steel-chinned Rudenko.

HUGHIE FURY – Tyson’s ‘little’ cousin steps up in class in a dangerous encounter

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lVREqGRdXJQ
By John Stevens: 21st February sees Hughie fury stepping up a fair bit in class as he faces the Russian Andriy Rudenko in what promises to be quite an interesting fight

According to boxing rec Rudenko is rated number 77 and Fury ranked 109 – in-between them are names like Oliver McCall, Sam peter and, amazingly, the seemingly indestructible Sherman Williams. I’m not sure exactly how boxing rec rates its fighters but I don’t think we can take too much on board from it (especially seeing as there are some very dubious names ranked higher than Rudenko) but still, reading between the lines, this is definitely a step up for Fury and it’ll be interesting to see where it goes.

Hughie Fury vs. Andriy Rudenko on February 21st in Monte Carlo, Monaco

fury67307 - CopyBy Scott Gilfoid: Unbeaten heavyweight prospect Hughie Fury (14-0, 8 KOs) will be returning to the ring next month against 31-year-old Ukrainian Andriy Rudenko (24-1, 16 KOs) on the undercard of the Gennady Golovkin vs. Martin Murray fight on February 21st at the Salle des Étoiles, in Monte Carlo, Monaco.

Fury, 20, has been out of the ring for the past eight months due to a medical problem. He’s now taken care of the issue and he’s ready to resume his career. The last time Fury, the nephew of heavyweight contender Tyson Fury, fought was back in May of 2014 when he beat Danny Hughes by an unimpressive 8 round decision.

Hughie Fury to fight on July 26th in Manchester, UK

hughie5By Scott Gilfoid: Heavyweight prospect Hughie Fury (14-0, 8 KO’s) will be fighting next month against a still to be determined opponent on the undercard of the Tyson Fury vs. Dereck Chisora II rematch at the Phones 4u Arena in Manchester, United Kingdom. Fury, 19, says he has some kind of medical problem that is increasing copper in his blood and taking away his strength. He doesn’t know what the condition is but he’s seeing a doctor about the problem.

“It just zaps you, making you tired; your strength goes. Whatever it is, it’s bad,” Hughie said. “I’ve got to see a specialist about it tomorrow.”

Hughie Fury defeats Danny Hughes, but looks poor

fury6777By Scott Gilfoid: In what could be the worst outing of his career, heavyweight prospect Hughie Fury (14-0, 8 KO’s) had to struggle to defeat Danny Hughes (12-3-2, 3 KO’s) by an 8 round points decision on Saturday night at the Ponds Forge Arena, in Sheffield, Yorkshire, United Kingdom. The referee scored it 79-74. After the fight the 19-year-old Hughie said “He was awkward.”

Surprisingly, Hughes was the bigger puncher of the two, which you think would be hard to believe considering that he came into the fight with just a measly 3 knockouts on his resume. It was pretty clear after the 1st round that Hughes had more power than Fury. As the fight progressed, Hughes was able to catch Fury with an occasional big shot while he was on his way in.

Hughie Fury faces Danny Hughes on May 10th

hughie53By Scott Gilfoid: 6’6″ undefeated heavyweight prospect Hughie Fury (13-0, 8 KO’s) will be in the ring next month against 28-year-old Danny Hughes (12-2-2, 3 KO’s) in a scheduled 8 round fight at the Ponds Forge Arena, Sheffield, Yorkshire, United Kingdom. Hughie’s trainer/father Peter Fury sees this as a step up for him, although it’s hard to say that it’s much of a step up given that Danny has never beaten anyone good before during his career.

To me, it looks more like a sideways move from Hughie’s last opponent journeyman Matthew Greer (16-12, 13 KO’s) than any kind of a step up at all.

“It’s a good step up for Hughie and it’s a good fight,” Peter said. “Danny’s coming to win, he’s a big lad, he’s 6’5” tall and 17-and-a-half to 18 stone, a genuine heavyweight who has been training hard for this fight.”

Hughie Fury outshines Tyson in stopping Matthew Greer in 2nd round

hughie5By Scott Gilfoid: It’s hard to believe it but 19-year-old heavyweight prospect Hughie Fury (14-0, 9 KO’s) looked better than his overweight cousin Tyson Fury last night in crushing 36-year-old Matthew Greer (16-12, 13 KO’s) in the 2nd round of a scheduled 6 round fight at the Copper Box Arena in London, UK. While the 274 lb Tyson Fury had to struggle to defeat Joey Abell last night, Hughie made it look easy in getting Greer out of there quickly without taking a lot of heat shots for his troubles.

Fury knocked Greer down three times in the 2nd round to get the stoppage. Greer’s corner threw the white towel in the center of the ring after the third knockdown. The first two knockdowns by Hughie were by body shots, and the last one was from a right to the head.

Hughie Fury talks about his lack of Knockouts on his resume

fury433By Scott Gilfoid: Right now heavyweight prospect Anthony Joshua (4-0, 4 KO’s) is getting most of the attention in the UK as far as heavyweight prospects go. Heavyweight Hughie Fury (12-0, 7 KO’s) has become the forgotten man for a lot of fans, because of Hughie having to work hard to defeat little known 3rd tier heavyweights that he should be knocking out in 1 or 2 rounds. Instead, Hughie has had to go the full distance in 2 out of his last four fights in beating the likes of Dorian Darch and Hrvoje Kisicek.

In contrast, the 6’6″ Joshua stopped Darch in the 2nd round earlier this month on February 1st, and before that, Joshua stopped Kisicek in the 2nd round last December. Hughie had to go the full 6 rounds with both of those guys, and I must say he didn’t exactly shine in either bout. I thought he looked pretty unspectacular.

Hughie Fury faces Matt Greer on Chisora-Johnson undercard on 2/15

fury5656By Scott Gilfoid: Undefeated heavyweight prospect Hughie Fury (12-0, 7 KO’s) will be facing journeyman Matt Greer (16-11, 13 KO’s) on February 15th at the Copper Box Arena in London, UK. The fight is scheduled for 8 rounds on the undercard of the Dereck Chisora vs. Kevin Johnson card. Fury’s cousin Tyson Fury will be on the same card in a bout against journeyman Gonzalo Omar Basile.

Greer has been in the ring recently with Deontay Wilder and Andy Ruiz Jr. He was destroyed early by both guys, but he at least made it to the 2nd round against Deontay. Ruiz Jr. was able to take him out in the 1st round. It’ll be interesting to see how far Greer can make it with Hughie, because he’s not known for being much of a puncher.
