Hughie Fury will learn from Nicolai Firtha fight, says Peter F

fury564534By Scott Gilfoid: 21-year-old heavyweight prospect Hughie Fury (16-0, 8 KOs) will be fighting 36-year-old journeyman Nicolai Firtha (21-11-1, 8 KOs) on the undercard of the Tyson Fury vs. Wladimir Klitschko fight next month on October 24th at the ESPRIT Arena in Dusseldorf, Germany.

Hughie’s trainer Peter Fury thinks that the 6’6” Firtha will be a good learning experience for the 6’6” Hughie, because of all the experience that Firtha has going for him against fighters like Deontay Wilder, Alexander Povetkin, Tyson Fury and Johnathon Banks.

Hughie Fury vs. Nicolai Firtha on October 24th in Dusseldorf, Germany

hughie21By Scott Gilfoid: Unbeaten heavyweight prospect Hughie Fury (16-0, 8 KOs) will be fighting the ring rusty 36-year-old journeyman Nicolai Firtha (21-11-1, 8 KOs) on October 24th on the undercard of the Wladimir Klitschko vs. Tyson Fury card at the ESPRIT Arena in Dusseldorf, Germany.

By having the 20-year-old fight the 6’6” Firtha, it gives boxing fans a chance to compare his performance against Firtha to that of WBC heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder and Tyson Fury, both of which previously stopped him.

Hughie Fury to fight on Klitschko-Fury card on October 24th

fury433By Scott Gilfoid: Undefeated heavyweight prospect Hughie Fury (16-0, 8 KOs) will be fighting next month against an opponent still to be determined on the undercard of the Wladimir Klitschko vs. Tyson Fury on October 24th at the ESPRIT Arena in Dusseldorf, Germany. Hughie, 20, is the nephew of Tyson Fury.

Hughie’s opponent likely won’t be anyone dangerous because he’s still being matched up against weak opposition at this point in his career. There’s talk of Hughie eventually fighting 35-year-old “Big” John McDermott in the near future, but it’s unclear whether that fight will take place as soon as October 24th.

Hughie Fury will take Deontay Wilder fight if he gets 8 weeks of training, says Peter F

fury433By Scott Gilfoid: Trainer Peter Fury says that his fighter Hughie Fury (16-0, 8 KOs) will agree to face unbeaten WBC heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder (34-0 33 KOs) if he’ll let young Hughie get a full 8 weeks of training. Apparently, the 7 ½ weeks that Hughie would be getting if he agreed to the fight isn’t good enough.

It would be short three days of 8 weeks. Peter wants Hughie to have the full 8 weeks, not just 7 ½ weeks. Of course, it doesn’t take a blind man to see that Peter and Hughie just don’t fancy the job of going out there and trying to beat what arguably is the hardest puncher in the heavyweight division right now in the 6’7” Wilder.

Hughie Fury offered Deontay Wilder title shot, says Peter F

hughie5By Scott Gilfoid: Unbeaten heavyweight prospect Hughie Fury (16-0, 8 Kos), the cousin of undefeated #1 WBO Tyson Fury, has been offered a world title shot against WBC heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder (34-0, 33 KOs), says his father/trainer Peter Fury. He says Hughie was offered the fight with 4 weeks’ notice. Peter doesn’t say whether or not they’ll take the fight, but given that he didn’t say anything about that it tells you that he’s not going to agree to let the 20-year-old Hughie take the fight.

Hughie was the one who Peter was talking about potentially breaking Mike Tyson’s record by becoming the youngest heavyweight world champion at age 20. Well, here’s young Hughie’s chance at breaking the record, but it doesn’t look like Peter is going to accept the fight, does it? Peter hasn’t said anything about whether he’ll agree to let Hughie take the fight with Deontay, but I don’t think he’s going to.

Ringside: Blackwell retains British title and Hughie Fury wins again

By Ian Aldous: Yesterday, a brand new venue for British boxing debuted a card full of domestic talent at the Derby Arena, which was headlined by a British middleweight championship bout as Nick Blackwell (18-3-1) defended his newly won belt for the first time against Damon Jones (13-1) live on Channel 5 and promoted by Hennessy Sports. I was ringside to watch the action for BN24.

On paper it seemed like a fight that Blackwell would probably win, but at the same time it would test his skills with Jones bringing his awkward southpaw style to the table.

Hughie Fury battles George Arias this Saturday

fury433By Tim Ackermann: Undefeated heavyweight prospect Hughie Fury (15-0, 8 KOs) will be looking to add another victory to his win column this Saturday night in a 10 round fight against the much more experienced 41-year-old George Arias (56-12, 43 KOs) at the Derby Arena, Derby, Derbyshire.

If the 20-year-old Hughie wins this fight, he has a chance of fighting on the undercard of the October 24th card in Dusseldorf, Germany, headlined by Wladimir Klitschko vs. Tyson Fury. There was talk of Hughie’s father Peter Fury wanting to get a big name for Hughie to fight on the card, but it doesn’t look like it’s going to happen.

Will any Brits win a Heavyweight world title

fury90677By Gav Duthie: There are currently 5 British heavyweights (6 if you include David Haye) who have aspirations to win world titles in the division. Tyson Fury seems the closest to a world title shot but following close behind are cousin Hughie Fury, David Price, Anthony Joshua and emerging fighter Dillian Whyte. Who if any of these fighters will be world champions within the year?

1. Tyson Fury 23-0 (17)

Has to go on top at present as he is the closest to a shot. He is mandatory with the WBO and Deontay Wilder wants to fight him also. As expected he beat Christian Hammer easily on saturday night. For me Hammer is probably the highest ranked average fighter of the lot and Tyson rightly stopped him. Hammer was good enough to make Fury train and keep him honest but at 6″2 at without a big punch Fury was fine. Then comes Klitschko or Wilder. I don’t think he can beat Wladimir and as for Wilder he will also have problems. Fury has improved but still seems susceptible to the overhand right (knocked down by Neven Pajkic and Steve Cunningham) and that is Deontay’s best punch.

Hughie Fury not impressive in win over Andriy Rudenko

hughieBy Scott Gilfoid: Heavyweight prospect Hughie Fury (15-0, 8 KOs) says unbeaten with a dull 10 round unanimous decision win over Andriy Rudenko (24-2, 16 KOs) on the Gennady Golovkin vs. Martin Murray fight card at the Salle des Étoiles, Monte Carlo, Monaco.

The final judges’ scores were 98-92, 98-91 and 97-92. This was not an impressive performance from the 20-year-old Hughie, as he was on his bike for the full 10 rounds of the fight.
