By Patrick McHugh: Welterweight Kell Brook will undergo eye surgery this Monday to have his broken eye socket repaired following his 5th round TKO loss to IBF/IBO/WBA/WBC middleweight champion Gennady “GGG” Golovkin last Saturday night in their fight at the O2 Arena in London, England. Brook’s promoter Eddie Hearn has already confirmed the injury and the surgery. The surgery will reportedly be conducted in Sheffield.

“Thanks for the messages, Special K Brook now left hospital – confirmed broken eye socket op on Monday in Sheffield,” said Hearn via his social media account.

Hearn confirms: Kell Brook suffered broken eye socket

brook22

By Dan Ambrose: Kell Brooks’ fight against IBF/IBO/WBA/WBC middleweight champion Gennady “GGG” Golovkin (36-0, 33 KOs) was a costly one, as he not only lost the fight by a 5th round knockout, but he also suffered a broken right eye socket. Brook’s trainer Dominic Ingle threw in the towel during the 5th round to have the fight stopped.

The large crowd at ringside booed the stoppage at the O2 Arena in London, England. The fans paid their hard earned money and they wanted to see the fight play out to it’s conclusion rather than having it stopped prematurely.

Brook: I expected Golovkin to be a bigger puncher

brook2

By Eris Baldwin: Kell Brook (36-1, 25 KOs) tried his best tonight but he suffered a right eye injury that led to his fight against IBF/IBO/WBA/WBC middleweight champion Gennady “GGG” Golovkin (36-0, 33 KOs) being stopped in the 5th round by referee Marlon Wright at the O2 Arena in London, England.

Brook said after the fight that he was not impressed with the punching power of Golovkin. After hearing so much about Golovkin’s punching power, Brook said he wasn’t what people thought he was. As the fight wore on, Brook says he realized that Golovkin is just hype and that he was no different than himself.

Golovkin: I broke Kell Brook – results

golovkin15

By Allan Fox: IBF/IBO/WBA/WBC middleweight champion Gennady “GGG” Golovkin (36-0, 33 KOs) says he got too anxious tonight in his fight against challenger Kell Brook (36-1, 25 KOs) and that’s why it took him loner to eventually get to him for a 5th round stoppage. Brook’s long-time trainer Dominic Ingle threw in the towel in the 5th to save him from taking needless punishment once he saw that the fight had spun out of control for his fighter.

Golovkin said he broke Kell Brook, and in truth, he did break him down with his shots. Golovkin’s heavy hands caused Brook to suffer an eye injury that he says had him unable to see clearly out of his right eye.

Gennady Golovkin vs. Kell Brook results

BOXING

By Scott Gilfoid: As I predicted, IBF/IBO/WBA/WBC middleweight champion Gennady “GGG” Golovkin (36-0, 33 KOs) stopped challenger Kell “Special K” Brook (36-1, 25 KOs) by a 5th round technical knockout on Saturday night after his trainer Dominic Ingle threw in the towel to have the fight halted at the O2 Arena in London, England. Believe it or not, Brook was ahead on the scorecards at the time of the stoppage, which is hard to believe.

I had Brook winning only round two. Brook was staggered in round one, and running from round three. I don’t how the judges could have had Brook ahead. I had predicted that Ingle would toss in the towel the first Brook got in trouble, and that’s what happened.

Malignaggi: Brook’s athleticism will be key against Golovkin

BOXING

By Allan Fox: Sky pundit Paulie Malignaggi sees Kell Brook’s athleticism and speed to be the key for him tonight if he’s got beat middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin at the O2 Arena in London, England. Brook thinks that Brook is going to need to use his boxing skills and sharp punches for him to get the better of the harder punching Golovkin.

Still, Malignaggi isn’t sure whether Kell will be able to do that with the pressure that he’s going to be under from Golovkin from the earliest moments of the fight. Malignaggi notes that Kell could lose his head once he starts getting hit hard by Golovkin for the first time.

Sanchez: Golovkin will KO Brook by 6th

BOXING

By Scott Gilfoid: Well, I hope Kell Brook (36-0, 25 KOs) tries hard to impress the large throng of fans that show up tonight for his fight against IBF/IBO/WBA/WBC middleweight champion Gennady “GGG” Golovkin (35-0, 32 KOs), because he may not have much time to enjoy the fight before he’s blasted to smithereens by the powerful Kazakhstan fighter.

Golovkin’s trainer Abel Sanchez is predicting a quick knockout tonight with GGG splattering the 30-year-old Brook on the canvas by round six. Sanchez knows more about Golovkin and what he’s capable of doing than anyone on this earth right now, so it’s hard to discount what he’s saying. Sanchez has seen Brook in action against one of his fighters in the past in Carson Jones, who Brook twice beat. Sanchez knows what Brook is capable of, and he also is well aware of his many limitations as a fighter.

Nelson shocked at Golovkin’s appearance

golovkin1111

(Artwork by SG) By Scott Gilfoid: Johnny Nelson was surprised at the condition of IBF/IBO/WBA/WBC middleweight champion Gennady “GGG” Golovkin (35-0, 32 KOs) at last Friday’s weigh-in for his fight tonight against Kell “Special K” Brook (36-0, 25 KOs), and he wonders whether he started training camp late for their September 10 fight. Nelson notes that the 34-year-old Golovkin’s face looked bad around his eyes and jaw areas.

Unlike others, Nelson sees Golovkin’s condition as more of a case of him having gotten a late start in training camp rather than him being physically ill. Never the less, it amounts to be the same. If Golovkin isn’t 100% tonight when he steps inside the ring against the 30-year-old Brook, then it really doesn’t matter whether it’s from him having gotten a late start in training camp or ill. He’s going to have problems whatever the cause.

Froch expects Brook to beat Golovkin

froch8944

By Scott Gilfoid: Carl Froch, sporting his new surgically reduced nose, says he thinks unbeaten Kell Brook (36-0, 25 KOs) can pull off the upset this Saturday night against IBF/IBO/WBA/WBC middleweight champion Gennady “GGG” Golovkin (35-0, 32 KOs) this Saturday night at the O2 Arena in London, England. Froch points out that Golovkin appears to be ill with some kind of virus possibly and he looked weary at today’s weigh-in for the fight.

Froch notes that Brook is VERY confident, and full of energy. He’s also about the same size as Triple G, says Froch. Still, Froch believes that Brook will need to fight the perfect fight for him to have a chance of winning. If he messes up on his tactics, then he’ll lose the match. Froch suggests that Brook focus on using movement and speed early on so that he can avoid getting hit by Golovkin.
