BOXING

By Yannis Mihanos: The wizards of match making in boxing can make any fight look thrilling and exciting in particular with tonight’s contest between IBF/IBO/WBA/WBC middleweight champion Gennady “GGG” Golovkin and Kell Brook.

Hollywood and Boxing have many similarities. They both base their actions mainly on acting.

One thing that they have for sure in common is good promotion. Film trailers usually seem breathtaking until you get to find for yourself what they are really about after of course you have bought a ticket.

Same goes for big boxing fights, promoters and tv channels create an irresistible spectacle for the eyes.

But people closer to boxing see and understand things a bit different. Promoters in boxing are like wizards because they have the ability to create illusions.

They can make us believe that what we are about to watch is the real deal.

We have all been reading the latest updates about the Brook – Golovkin fight. It is so close now, only a few hours left.

Brook appears stronger than anybody expected, he already has exceeded Golovkin’s weight on two occasions.

Brook has used any help that he could get, this is why he even used a famous University in order to give him precise insights about his progress in training.

That has created a bigger buzz in the whole picture. The favorite remains Golovkin but now many expect a hard fight.

If you remove all wizardry and present the mere facts (Power, skills, IQ) you will see that this fight has little chance to go all the way.

I would dare to say that Brook has only 1% chance to win.

Brook is a good fighter that can continue fighting at a high level even after this fight but to win Golovkin? That’s a whole different ball game.

Still I am not going to erase him before the fight starts.

1% is not little in boxing, it can be a kind of circumstance that no one expects to happen.

This Saturday night, Golovkin with a victory will move one more step towards stardom.

Brook will have to hope for something divine to happen in order to win.

So have the wizards of matchmaking done it again? The verdict of the fight will speak for itself.
